Self driving cars
« on: January 03, 2017, 11:47:04 am »
Would you want one? They are almost here. Uber wanted to use them on the streets of San Fran but the DMV stopped them for whatever reason. If you have a long commute some would love to try them. The safety issue is still  there but  think it might be fun.

No, they scare me,  perhaps in the future when they have the glitches worked out, I may warm up to them but it will be hard, between all the distracted  drivers we  have to watch out for now, a self driving car I am not ready for!!!

If its 100% safe and drives it self I would not mind the price on it, I can finally catch some Z's while it drives me to work.

Ijust can't  see myself using one, when we have to commute, we drive between 80 miles and 160 and there are so many wrecks on the freeway, not that i  have anything against them, but it is the other drivers i worry about.  You just don't know what they are going to do. Like weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds. Even motorcycles going between to 2 trucks just because they don't want to slow down and those truckers at any given time  could have swerved toward the center and  crushed him.  Nope not for me at this time.

I agree that the main danger on the roads is the unpredictability of other drivers. However, you must note that a computer's reaction time is even quicker than a human's, and can detect things that a human may miss (eg the motorcycle threading between 2 trucks being in the trucker's blind-spot)... We are already seeing safety features with the advent of collision avoidance systems that can be found on a number of modern cars. I think that as that technology gets more refined, then it becomes more likely that we will begin to see self-driving cars.

I don't know, I'm a bit scared. What if a fuse or something goes out, would it give you power to take over or what. Would it be safe? I guess it's too new to know.

I don't think I would be quite ready to buy one, but I would be willing to get in a self-driving car with an Uber driver behind the wheel just to make sure all goes well.

Not me, maybe it's an age thing but I just don't foresee myself getting one or taking a ride in one.  Unless I'm in the middle of the desert on a very straight road, then I might enjoy the experience.  Otherwise, no thanks.

I don't want one. I really don't like the idea that they are making them. I just don't have a good feeling about these cars.

I bought a new one last year and I plan on keeping it for a long time.  Hopefully buy the time I'll need a new car they will have worked out all the bugs so I'm going to wait about 15 years.

I don't know if I would want or could afford one, but I would certainly be okay driving them...

I would not mind trying them out if all the cars on the road was like bumper cars. I can see myself buying a tiny car on the road with a bunch of bigger cars and if the computer mess up...:(

I don't trust them at all. Too many people rely strictly on it doing ALL the work. I don't think that anything is FLAWLESS, so I would expect there will be recalls and accidents, which of course  means lawsuits, etc.
