Another phrase i dislike
« on: March 04, 2018, 10:53:05 pm »
The saying pertaining to a loved one that has died."They are looking down on you"

First off, that must be one heckuva telescope.2nd,why bother going to the cemetary then? They would be able to see us in the living rm watching tv right? So why bother going somewhere they are dead?

Just mixing humor with truth.

Gen 3:19 You will have to work hard and sweat a lot
to produce the food you eat.
You were made out of the ground.
You will return to it when you die.
You are dust,
and you will return to dust.”

Ecclesiastes 9:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

That is an amusing point. There's a lot people say in the name of comforting the bereaved. No matter what anyone believes, it is still a loss and very difficult to manage for the ones left behind. It's nice people try to comfort.

Yes your body is dead and returns to dust but what about your soul?

That is a funny truth.  Not something ya ever really think about.  Your soul goes to Heaven. It always hurts my heart and makes my brain angry when I hear non-believers say when they die it's over...ur just done.  What would be the point in doing anything than?  Without faith life would be meaningless.  Now on the other side of things when someone dies and people say... well they're no longer in pain.  They are in a better place.  How do we know that? If that person wasn't saved than that's not my idea of a better place.

We just had the second of a five part lecture series about the Catholic Mass and how many churches' architecture was designed for the congregation visual focus to be lifted UP - with the idea that Heaven is often figuratively thought to be "up there"...

The priest was pointing straight up as he was making this point; then made the observation that people in China would be pointing in an opposite direction when they pointed "up".  This was all to make the point that it's not really a physical location/place in our limited understanding of three dimensional space - yet it is still easier for us to visualize or conceptualize Heaven as being "up there".

Do prefer the term "Going down on you" instead ?

I love that phrase,,,  "they are always watching you"...  I hope so.  I want my mom and dad to always watch over me and know that I am dong my best at the things I do.  I didn't get to say good-by to my mom or dad before they passed,,,  so I always say I hope they are watching me,,,, so I can tell them I love them  <3

Keep in mind (if you are a prayerful person at all) that prayer has no time boundaries, so you can still pray for your parents' peaceful passing over - even though from your earthly perspective that has already happened in the past.

The phrase that I hate:  When someone on TV always say when questioning a suspect, "you have an answer to each question".  Well don't ask if you don't want any of the answers.  That galls me.

Then show them this.....
Christ himself when on earth performed resurrections. (Lu 7:11-15; 8:49-56; Joh 11:38-44) Only through Jesus Christ can resurrection, with everlasting life thereafter, be possible.—Joh 5:26.

Yes your body is dead and returns to dust but what about your soul?

Soul is what you are. When Adam was created he became a living soul. What you are now.Not a separate thing. Not a biblical teaching.God said dust when u sin....ur soul doesnt leave..it dies when u die.

The soul that sins dies says Ezekiel 18:20

Dust isnt life either. What did Lazarus say after Jesus resurrected him?He didnt speak of a heavenly bliss or hell....he was asleep as Jesus said right before he resurrected him.

So answer this...if Adam and Eve didnt sin would they have died?NOOOOOOO!!

God didnt create man to die and go to heaven. The earth is our home.

Hope NOT BS is best way to go

Much of the world profits on how the dead still influence their loved ones.

My father-in-law passed away in 1999.I remember going to the undertaker with my wife and he was showing us all the different caskets.I felt like i was in a used car lot with a salesman. They put you in a wall now and if you want a picture of your deceased love one you might pay $400 just for that. They suck the blood out of you cos they know you are vulnerable.

Jesus said when you know the truth it will set you free from all this nonsense and tradition. He said to mourn with those that mourn and they will be comforted for being that way.

Its almost that saying reminds me of how u teach children about Santa, the easter bunny or tooth fairy.Tell the ones the truth from the bible what happenes at death and there is a hope of seeing them again as promised by Jesus in the resurrection.Jesus being resurrected from the death offered him to say RE death and Satan,"I have conquered the world now by dying and being brought back to life"

We just had the second of a five part lecture series about the Catholic Mass and how many churches' architecture was designed for the congregation visual focus to be lifted UP - with the idea that Heaven is often figuratively thought to be "up there"...When Jesus ascends to heaven from earth it is up right? Then a cloud hides him.So i think up would be appropriate.

I answered and dont see post...lemme try again....after 40 days seeing the resurrected Jesus the apostles see him go upward and then covered by a cloud.....so heaven clearly pictured upward by that scripture.
