Cursive
« on: July 29, 2018, 04:47:02 am »
Today, I had a captcha that was written in cursive.

It got me to wondering how long it will be before the younger generations will not be able to read cursive.  Cursive isn't being taught in schools anymore...just printing.

I'm surprised you had a captcha in cursive.  Those things are hard to read to begin with.  As for cursive, they stopped because there was no need.  All forms you fill out have to be printed or they are on a computer/tablet/ipad etc.  The only thing I wonder is about the signature.  Since no one learns cursive, how will anyone learn to write their signature.  On documents it will say print your name then give you a line for a signature.  What will they do without cursive? Now my younger brother and his wife decided on their own to teach their eight year old daughter cursive.  I'm going to say my niece's generation, and/or their kids if they are not personally taught will be the generation no longer able to read cursive.

  :star:  I heard that kids are not taught cursive in schools any more. Which seems strange, but reading it could be a bit difficult for the younger generations. Technology is taking over the world.   :star:

Well, it seems it's not just "the younger generation" that can't read or write cursive. When my family sold my grandma's house after she passed away a few years ago, a husband and wife in their mid-thirties (MY age group) bought the house... the husband PRINTED his name on the final sales papers.  ???

I guess in the future all writing will be done electronically. Writing by hand will be a thing in the past. Sad.

Wow, I never thought in my lifetime something that I took for granted would become obsolete!  I feel OLD.

I guess cursive will become like an ancient greek language where few people will be able to read it.

I heard this a few years ago.  It may be my age but I wish they would still teach it.  There is nothing better than a hand written note/letter, in cursive.   Like I said, maybe it's my age but I'm a lover of letters and thank you notes.

I quit writing in cursive years ago, spent 30 years in security filling out daily activity reports...all needed in print.
Every once in awhile I'll sit down and write something in cursive...printing is a lot faster for me now... :-[

Cursive is a lost art form, though it's rare that I write something out by hand.

I've been hearing this for quite a while and I don't know what to think.  I keep hearing that they aren't teaching cursive in schools anymore but I have friends who have told me that their kids are learning cursive in school.
