That is strange because the only thing this generation will be using cursive for is a signature and some may just use scribble.  We were discussing the other day how many things are no longer around and kids can't give change without a calculator.  Technology is good but is also handicapping people and making us lazy.  We can just talk to things and get it to work or have Suri do it.

My kids schools do not teach cursive. My son is in the 4th grade this year and his handwriting is awful.

I know.  I think this is so wrong.  How are they going to know how to sign their name for legal contracts.  You just can't print your name because anyone can do this and use your identity.

I remember learning cursive when I was in elementary school. But the OP does bring up a valid point. Cursive writing is slowly becoming a dying art in our school systems.

It's all mainly typing, texting, and touch screen now.

Cursive is taking the time to communicaate in a personal way.

Kids now only know print for the most part, for phones/computers/action games/ yadda yadda.

We are losing our face-to-face interaction, and replacing it with technical jibber jabber.

Even with text, we now have "fun spelling" and abbreviation to replace our "old world" vocabulary.

We are becoming harder and colder, and more distant.

My youngest son had a hard time being able to write in cursive. He finally was allowed to type out his papers due to his father's urging the teachers to accept his work done that way.

He also had a hard time writing out math problems so he solved them in his head. Teachers didn't like that because he didn't show his work.

He's really, really smart but had a problem with bearing down too hard with his pencils. I think he may have had a problem, but no one really knew how to deal with it. He's doing fine now. He's in college and doing well.

With the "new computer age": Cursive writing is hard to find.
I really do not know what is going to happen when people
do not use paper and pen or pencil anymore.

With all the new technology most signatures will be electronic.  What a shame that the younger have no knowledge of may things us old timers do.

Wow, I didn't know it wasn't being taught anymore. That's crazy. It's rarely used but I see the importance in teaching it.

We had to learn to write in cursive when I was in school. It was Mandatory. I think that the School System today is lazy. They stick the Children on computers and the Teacher has nothing to do.

Sorry, but I won't miss it one bit. Fortunately, being able to read your signature is not a requirement. If you can scribble a line the same way twice in a row, that will pass as a signature.

I think it is awful that the kids today aren't taught cursive writing.  It can be such a beautiful thing.  Eventually, they won't be able to even read the Constitution of the US. :confused1:
