Today Celabrate Stupid Toy Day!
« on: December 16, 2018, 11:26:51 am »
When my kids were small, they had large Christmas stockings, and I got to fill them up small toys that I found at the grocery store aisles (throughout the year). I love the feeling the shopping for stocking stuffers gave me, was a  :present: to me. Do you have a toy story?  :santa:

Buying stocking crap thru the year makes a lot of sense. That stuff gets expensive.

I couldn't imagine there would be a day designated as Stupid Toy Day.  Google gave me more information:

December 16th is Stupid Toy Day, a day dedicated to looking back on the stupid toys of our childhood and remembering the stupid fun they inspired. The origins of Stupid Toy Day are unknown, but it seems appropriate to celebrate the off-beat amusements of our past during the holiday season, a time of year rampant with gag gifts, “white elephant” gift exchanges, and a whole lot of letters to Santa pleading for stupid toys.

The article named a few toys as stupid (all of which I think kids all thouroughly enjoyed...and did not consider to be "stupid".
     Slinky
     Magic 8 Ball
     Lite Brite

The article talked about how simple toys could bring hours of simple fun......that made me think the special day was misnamed.  It
shouldn't be "Stupid Toy Day".  Perhaps "Simple Joy from Simple Toys" would be better?

Yeah appears the name is not very fitting.... there are some stupid toys out there but I can't think of any at the moment.

Thanks for researching the back story on this day!  I do agree the name of this day could use a makeover.  We could all probably tell a story about some simple childhood toy that gave us hours of joy.  I can relate to the Slinky.  I remember as a child when I had to have one after my cousin showed me hers.
And with all that, some of these "stupid toys" have shown up on those slideshow lists about toys worth a small fortune today.:present:

Why not? There is literally a day for EVERYTHING any more.
