experimenting
« on: January 16, 2019, 03:01:06 pm »
My family is Really big on experiementing with food and getting new flavors and or new food ideas for dinner.. and we are really big for tweeking recipes to make them our own ...   We started doing this one time when we had only 2  packages of mashed taters and they were both diffrent flavors so we threw em together and now we basically just do that every time we maked mashed taters..

Well today we kinda messed around with some flavors... we put grape jelly in some bbq sauce never heard of it.. didn't sound to appealing but came out really good..
With our maccies we put some cilantro and mozarella and then put in in the oven and when it was done we topped it with parmasaun... both turned out pretty good so we will be doing it again..

Do you ever experiment with food and or flavors? Sometimes the biggest mistakes turn into the best food lol

A lot of people do that with the flavored mashed potatoes.

The grape jelly and bbq sauce is actually nothing new.  There are recipes for that all over the place.  I have had that for years.

I have in the past experimented and sometimes it turns out okay and sometimes not.  I usually do not because I cannot afford to waste food if it turns out to be something we/I cannot eat. ;(

I'm more of a recipe-follower, but...my husband is a great experimenter with ingredients.  Sometimes it turns out great, sometimes not so much.

I'm not a good cook. I follow 4 and 5 star recipes to a T, and they just turn out 'meh'. My husband, on the other hand, grabs a bunch of whatever we have on hand, no recipe, doesn't measure a thing, just throws it all together, and it turns out AMAZING.  ???

I’ve done that many times.  Sometimes they turn out great and other times not so much!  Thank goodness for pizza delivery then! lol

I had a great experiment for lunch today. I laid out two slices of sourdough bread and spread mayo on each, then on one side I spread horseradish and ketchup and mustard on the other. Then I laid on whole boiled shrimp for a tasty delight. These babies were about 3/8 of an inch thick and it was SO GOOD!  :silly:

I will often take a recipe and modify it.  Or, if I like a recipe but don't have the exact ingredients, I'll substitute.  I have, also, just thrown stuff together.  It usually comes out decent and sometimes really good.  Just never know until you try.  Keep experimenting!

I have always  experimented with food. When my children were young it was hard to make sure they got enough veggies. so I would grate up  a zucchini and mix it with their brownies. Which was put in their lunch bags, or  pumpkin in their chocolate cake. Hubby  does not like lentils. so I buy the golden lentils and add a handful or  two too the stews and he thanks  it taste  good. Little dose he know. Kids didn't either.
