Christopher Hasson
« on: February 22, 2019, 11:43:53 am »
White supremacist.  Domestic terrorist.  Coast Guard.

Stockpiled weapons, drugs and ammunition.
Drew up a target list of prominent cable news journalists, and Democratic politicians to be killed.
Wrote that he wanted to murder civilians on a scale unseen before.

But Jussie Smollet, right?

He wasn't arrested for domestic terrorism... it was for a minor gun charge & illicit drugs.

Looking items up on google while at work for the government is probably not a good thing to do since they track everything.... but it is hardly illegal.  Also, a 2-year old draft in your email draft folder saying you are going to kill everyone is probably not wise either... but again, not illegal.

Jussie Smollet needs to be charged & taken seriously as a separate incident... nothing to do with this Hasson guy.  It's not a race to the bottom to see which political party or color of skin has worse crime offenders so you can "win" something... no one wins anything, we all lose.

Prosecutors charged him with the obvious.  They also said it was the tip of the iceberg.

"The defendant is a domestic terrorist, bent on committing acts dangerous to human life that are intended to affect governmental conduct."

We need to stop making excuses for home-grown terrorists.

I am just so happy they caught this guy. We certainly do not need any more killings in our country. It's bad enough to just hear of one life taken but when these fools want to carry out killing multiple people makes me sick. I just don't understand these kind of people!

What is the point you are trying to make with that last comment? Two completely different stories about completely different events.  Both of these men should be punished at whatever severity the justice system warrants. It isn't one or the other, or that one should be used to deflect the other or replace coverage of the other in the media.

Thankfully, Hasson was caught and stopped without any mass harm being done.  Unfortunately, Smollet was not caught/discovered until after his harm was already done.  Both are bad people.

It's a matter of degree.  Smollet pulled a stupid stunt, which, in the end, did the most damage to himself.
Hasson, on the other hand, was planning a terrorist action which would do great damage to people other than himself.
People are outraged by Smollets' actions, but make excuses for Hasson.

It's more of the difference in the amount of media attention the situations have received.

And the media outrage over people who did not believe Smollet's story, which was ultimately not a believable story.
