While a "spirited" debate between Hitch and Johnnie can always make for interesting reading...

I guess it's good entertainment value, if nothing else!

Well, that escalated quickly...lol

You all go ahead and argue religion if it helps you.

I'll just thank God for my bread pans and my blender, and keep feeding people.

I do resent your sort of caviler attitude about the situation. Wrong doctrine has ruined many a life. "Arguing religion" doesn't "Help me", but I'm hoping it'll help the poor folks enslaved to a falsehood of man made doctrine. It may be 'tough love', but when I see people being fooled by Satan's lies made manifest through a cult, I can't remain silent for long.

JJ, you can resent all you like.  Arguing religion is a game that nobody wins.  Except maybe that Satan fella that both you and Hitch seem so preoccupied with.

There is a better way.

If you let a lie go by unchallenged for long enough, it eventually becomes somebody's truth.

Do you honestly believe that God needs you to stick up for him?
All religions are man-made, even yours.

Patriarchy.  Doctrine of Discovery.   Witches.

“All wickedness is but little to the wickedness of a woman… What else is woman but a foe to friendship, an unescapable punishment, a necessary evil, a natural temptation, a desirable calamity, domestic danger, a delectable detriment, an evil nature, painted with fair colours… When a woman thinks alone, she thinks evil… Women are by nature instruments of Satan — they are by nature carnal, a structural defect rooted in the original creation.” – Malleus Maleficarum

Does that come from the mind of God, or is it obviously from the reprobate mind of man?

And yet, as obviously flawed as it is, it was accepted as a right doctrine.

None of us has the whole truth.

Well, I guess it's a good thing you weren't one of the Apostles, if you think so little of defending God's Word.

Look, I get it. You're the philosophical type. One of those "how can we know that we know?'" types. The bible is reputable, passing every test. It's God's Word. It's the whole Truth.

Now, where I differ with hitch, is he's clearly gotten some tall tales from the Watchtower, but anyone with common sense can read the bible for all it's worth and see the internal consistency his cult lacks.

I appreciate the fact that you don't want to dicker with hitch, but it would help if you want to converse with me, by delineating just what your rather esoteric beliefs are and why you hold them.

The apostles didn't defend the Word.  They knew him intimately, and told what they knew.

The bible is a book, written by men.  The Word of God is a living being.
John 1 says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
With the Word, God created everything.  Do you think he was holding a bible?

What I believe is simple.  I believe that God is, and that he is accessible to any who seek him.  I believe that he is knowable, with or without the book.

God cannot be contained in, nor constrained by, religion.

I understand where you're coming from, but I think you've missed the point when you say the bible was written 'by men'. While this is true, in the strictest sense, it was written by God. For nothing is written by them which was not first inspired by the Holy Spirit.

There is no 'enlightenment' so to speak- without the bible. And while I don't presume to know who is or isn't being saved, the Word of God- The Gospel- The Bible- however you want to call it, is essential to building our faith. Without the bible, faith would be blind. And the Christian faith is not blind.

But again, I'm non denominational. I don't put any faith in any particular organisation, since I know all too well- and hitch is a prime example- how they can be man-made and work against God's Will by teaching their own brand of heresy.

You're giving grammatical advice is only slightly more funny than Charles Taze Russell thinking he had a clue about interpreting the bible.

BTW, neither the spellcheck nor online dictionary seems to have a problem with my spelling.

 noun: organisation
1.
an organized body of people with a particular purpose, especially a business, society, association, etc.
"a research organization"
synonyms:   company, firm, concern, operation, corporation, institution, group, establishment, consortium, conglomerate, combine, syndicate, body, agency, federation, confederation, alliance, coalition, association, movement, society, league, club, network, confederacy; More

Care to tell us why the term Jehovah Witness is NOT in the bible yet?

Both spellings are correct.

And to answer your last question - If it was not in the Bible when it was first written it can't be added. Well maybe to the modern day versions where everything is all changed but those are not the Inspired Word of God.

You mean, hitch doesn't have a leg to stand on-both as a proselytizer AND as a grammar teacher? :D

I knew with all the chat between Paints,JJ and myself this topic was too juicy for you and eventually you would put your 2 cents in.

RE the grammatical stuff when others bring that up in a forum to try and get an edge it only shows a weakness on their part.I know when i copy and paste something from JW.org it is SPOT on.And even that doesnt soothe the foolish one.I will also admit i am lazy not obliging to the kings english and whats more important to me is conveying my message and i think i do it well.

As far as JWs and their name.......https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/name-jehovahs-witnesses/

I see Gods name is in KJV Psalms 83:18 and those that seem to worry about the organizations name in the bible dont even acknowledge that.

JWs use Gods name and witness to HIM being GOD!!And i think if you read Math 24:14 you will see worldwide they witness worldwide about it.And the KJV bible has been around much longer then and before Gods people adopted their name.

JJ and Controversial snowflake would be more wise to realize what Jesus told Pilate RE this world and his kingdom was NO part of it instead of supporting Trump. And THAT was ALWAYS in the bible and NOT added.

Being a Christian does not require being apolitical. In fact, quite the contrary. Christians were trying to get away from King James (that you seem to hold as an authority of some sort) for his abuse of believers, thus setting up (what would become) the USA.

The fact the world is in the shape it's in, is probably due in no small part to the apathy of believers.

Where does it refer to JW in Matt 24:14?

Again. the term Christian was used in the bible looooong before the concept of JW was even a twinkle in Russell's eye. Why should we abandon one from the bible for some johnny- come- lately from the 19th century who presumed to know better?

I agree with JediJonne that the Lord works in mysterious ways.
Well if that were the case why did Jesus say there would be blessings for those that take in knowledge of him?Kinda hard to understand someone wanting to be a mystery.

Plus his thoughts and ways are higher then ours.

That's basically what I mean by His working in mysterious ways....they're mysterious to us, because our capacity for understanding is so far beneath Him. This is exactly the point He made to Job.

Job 14:14-15 New International Version (NIV)
14 If someone dies, will they live again?
All the days of my hard service
I will wait for my renewal[a] to come.
15 You will call and I will answer you;
you will long for the creature your hands have made.

mys·ter·y1
/ˈmist(ə)rē/
noun
1.
something that is difficult or impossible to understand or explain

Hardly

I agree Gods ways are higher and parts of the bible are symbolic to be understood at a later time.Mysterious isnt the correct meaning. He wants his will to be known.Of course we all question him.Jesus said ask and you will receive understanding. That depends on us and our relationship with him.

Someone that wants to be mysterious usually wants to remain that way.Not the case here.God even let humans question his way of doing things humbly.Abraham is a good case right before God destroyed Sodom.

Satan set it up to actually make it look like God was causing his calamity.Job made God look even better with his integrity.

Just as Satan has made God look wicked by teaching christendom the hell theory.A lie that doesnt sit well with God.

I was watching a documentary on WWII the other nite that said Tokyo was next city to be Adam bombed and Japs came to their senses and surrendered. If US had same mentality of those that support God created hell maybe the US should have not listened. After all the motto is "in god we trust"

Typo on Adam..should be Atom

Maybe because God determines when HIS word or prophesies are fulfilled or understood by HIS people. The year 1914 was known as the year of Gods kingdom in heaven when Satan and his angels thrown out of heaven and the woe for the earth.Thats when world war began for the generation Jesus spoke of would begin to fulfill what Jesus told his apostles....the start of the Last days.

Satan was cast out of Heaven long before 1914.

Luke 10:17-18  When the seventy disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Even the demons obey us when we use your name.”

“Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan falling from heaven as a flash of lightning!

War broke out in heaven NOT while Jesus was on earth and as i know you dont agree,Michael <Jesus>was succesful throwing Satan and his demons out and confining them to the earth.

New International Version
Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short."

Luke 10:18
I see Satan already fallen like lightning from heaven: Jesus is evidently speaking prophetically, seeing the ouster of Satan from heaven as if it had already occurred. Re 12:7-9 describes the battle in heaven and associates Satan’s fall with the birth of the Messianic Kingdom. Jesus was here highlighting the certain defeat of Satan and his demons in that future battle, for God had just empowered those 70 disciples, mere imperfect humans, to expel demons.—Lu 10:17.

Ironically, you're right that Satan was cast out before Jesus made that pronouncement. Jesus was speaking of Satan no longer being able to accuse.

However the point still stands that Satan was cast out loooong before 1914. You are blindly following a false prophet in Charles Taze Russel.

Jesus is not the arch angel Michael for the 1,000th time.

In the book of Jude, Michael asks the Lord's authority to rebuke Satan:

But when the archangel Michael contended with the Devil and disputed about the body of Moses, he did not dare to bring a condemnation of slander against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

While in the book of Matthew, Jesus Himself rebuked Satan:

Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.' " Then the Devil left Him, and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him

Jesus is greater than angels. He is equal with God and the Watchtower is in serious error.
