Let's all grow a garden!
« on: April 26, 2019, 09:09:10 pm »
We have to soon realize that we have to safely feed ourselves. The stores now have more recalls than I can count and it's very scary. I remember I had to snap beans from their pods that my grandma got from her garden. It was fun, interesting. Something i'll never forget. I have some tomato seeds but no land to do this.  :rose: :rose:

Tomatoes will grow in a pot on the porch.  We will plant somethings this year.

I was doing yard work last weekend and gave serious thought to taking one of my empty pots and turning it into an herb garden. Thinking cilantro, jalapenos, chives, basil, mint and onions. This would make for tastier salsa and mojitos!  I am thinking that it is not too late to start from seed. The weather is getting nice in Colorado and I think that the chances of another deep freeze are slim. Even so, we get enough warning so that I would have time to pull the plants into the house. My wife just picked up five large planters-bursting with flowers. Amazing how much better our yard looks with a bunch of flowers. A little girl came walking by last night, with her parents, and exclaimed "What a beautiful Garden!" which had my wife beaming as if she had planted them herself! Such a nice reward for adding a few flowers.

I am fortunate enough to have enough space for a very small garden or should I say, plot to plant a few rows of whatever.  The deer enjoy most of what I plant so that is always a challenge for me. I still enjoy planting.  It is very therapeutic.

This is the first year in years that I don't believe I will have a garden.   I am having some serious health issues that are causing me problems in walking, bending, etc.   I have started a small herb garden in a container, parsley, basil, dill, cilantro and green onions.  Hopefully I will be able to plant a couple of tomato plants and maybe a squash plant or two.  I do plan on visiting our local farmers market through the summer, next best thing to having my own garden.

I do have a large enough yard to grow a garden. However I have not had much luck with growing things here. I think the soil is not very good.

:rose: :rose:We use almost all of the flowerbeds in our yard for vegetables  and all kinds of herbs.  We still have flowers in some for the beautiful colors.  We always seem to get tons of tomatoes and zucchini, string beans, pes, chilis and all kinds of squash.  We freeze the extras so enjoy the "fruits of our labor" all year round.

I have a few herbs going right now as well as some squash and peppers! If I had some more land I would definitely love to have rows and rows.

I used to do a garden when I was younger and had a good sized yard.  But now I only have a little space and I have no interest.

I've been growing vegetables in my flower beds for the last few years.  Tomatoes, yellow squash, and sweet potatoes seem to grow the best for me.
This year, I'm going to try pole beans too.

I am going to grow  a container garden this year.  Just some tomatoes, peppers and cumbers .  As I will be helping my sister-in-law  at the  farmers market this year and  can get all of the squash, watermelons an other melons plus  roasted  chili and other veggies  there.  So I want be using as much  water in town as it is very expensive. But I do love being able to  go outside and pick fresh tomatoes, cumbers and peppers. She raises the tomatoes and peppers in the green house and the taste is not the  same as those  grown outside in the sunlight.

We plant green beans, peppers and tomatoes. Last year we did pretty good so we will be trying again this year.
