Family renuion ideas
« on: July 28, 2019, 08:40:46 pm »
I've been to two back to back this month.  Every year we have it in a different state and next year we will host it where I live.  I always look forward to going.  We have it over three days. We usually have a meet and greet on Friday with food and games.  Saturday's there might be sightseeing or doing what you want in the afternoon then a banquet in the evening What do you do for your family reunion?

I've never been to a family reunion.  My sisters have gone to one before but I wasn't able to get away.  At the time my sister and her husband owned a restaurant. They brought food there..cooked and served it.  It must have been held in an American Legion building or something.   What you have planned sounds like a getaway - I hope I get a surprise invite from a long lost family member.

One year we all went to a pretty cool place.  I forget the name.  So I will describe it.  It was like a carnival but inside a buffet style restaurant.  It was a great idea for the kids to have something to do.  The adults could watch the football game or just chat.  It was an all you could eat buffet.  So we snacked most of the time.  It was just a few hours but it was nice.

Some of the older members in the family used to put on a big shindig every year, but there are not many left of the older group, and the newer generations arent interested in participating or carrying on

Ours is in the town where the family is originally from.  We do not do anything special.  Actually as the family gets smaller every year and fewer actually come we just get together and eat.  We use to always everyone brought their musical instruments and they played music and sang for about an hour or longer.  It was always a lot of fun.

We had enough food to feed an army. And that was after we had all ate so much we did not need to eat again for at least a week. haha

We only do it for one day. Usually have lots of food, drinks and music. It's always nice to sit and talk with some of your relatives you don't see very often.

My  aunts and uncles were scattered all over.  But I have been to 4 out of town,  Washington State,  in July after Mt. Saint Helens blew. Bow what a sight that was. It was still smoking when we  flew over it. also been to Oregon, Ca.. and  Az. for  reunions. But a lot of them were held here in N.M, But now all of them have  passed on and the cousins  rarely want to get together as  we all grew up in  different parts of the  country and   did not know  much about  each other.  I was lucky to to be able to fly and see them .

The last time I went to a family reunion 10 years ago, it was ok. Music, food, and family.

Our last one was at Disneyland, when it was slightly affordable.

Like you we do in different states; we always try and have a theme; one year we did back to the 70's and had a talent show; everyone dressed in attire from that time and different family members performed songs and dances from that era; it was fun; I believe we were in Virginia Beach that year; we generally do a farewell breakfast on the last day and try and select  volunteers to plan the next one and have family members say where they might like the next one to be that way it gives the next committee members some places to start with; we also do sight seeing and at the farewell breakfast we always incorporate some type of memorial service to honor those who have passed since the last renuion.  Just have fun!

I haven't been to a class reunion in years.  There was one this past May.  I saw pictures of those who attended, I only recognized a few of the people.

That's too bad.  I'm one of the youngest of my cousins in the planning committee there's only one younger than me.  We've been having ours since 1975 and a lot of people look forward to it each year so I hope it will continue for several more generations.  It's a lot of work planning but it's fun too.

I like the theme idea.  I usually work on the games committee.  Some hits are the frozen tshirt game, 3 or 4 shirts are folded and frozen and the first person to get it on wins the game,  family bingo is also nice.  I use mom, dad, grandma, grandpa and family name on each card and then mix in as many member names as possible.  Most people playing wants to get a card with their name, child or spouse.  Tape each name on a peppermint and give the candy away when the game is over.
