I am a dog lover and own two large dogs that rarely bark (a Golden Retriever and an English Cream Retriever puppy). We are training the Puppy right now and discourage barking which has worked with all of our dogs. We have a dog door but have not taught the younger one to use it till we are certain that he will not be barking. We also have Barn Owls, Coyotes, Foxes, the occasional Mountain Lion/Bear and Hawks-and he is only 20 pounds, somewhat defenseless.  It sounds like you are being a responsible dog owner. We had neighbors across the small river that used to let three little dogs out after eleven at night and before nine in the morning. They would just leave the dogs outside for a few hours (not watch them at all) and the dogs would bark for the large percentage of that outside time. I went over to ask them to politely ask them to pick better times to put their dogs out and to  minimize the barking which they replied "dogs will be dogs". Other neighbors called the police and Home owner's association. The people ended up moving out.

You do know a mountain lion and a bear are not in any way the same thing --- right?

I would never live in an area with a home owner's association.  Nobody is going to tell me what to do on my property.  We have city and county ordinances but none about barking.  And even if we did the law enforcement around here would not do anything about it.

Just got off the phone with the police department. We were told that there is nothing she can do about Sasha barking unless it is a continuous barking. He said that so long as it isn't before 7am or after 11 pm we have nothing to worry about. whew lol. He even said a dog is a dog and is going to bark....thank you all again so much !!

I would not have called the police.  The changes of HER calling the police because your dog was barking was pretty close to zero.  Unless their is an ordinance of after 11 and before 7 his advice was nonsense.  I had a neighbor threaten me (to another neighbor) because I was mowing and started at about 6:30.  Not my fault you party all night but I have to mow when it is cool so I say suck it up buttercup!  He did not have the guts to come say what he did to somebody else.  He would have been picking himself up off the ground.
To start a power mower 630 AM is pretty rude. The temp is not gonna factor in that much if you waited till 9 AM.

sometimes a barking is annoying we have a couple across the street. they bark at all hours when one starts then the others follow. doesn't bother me . We had a dog who barked when a leaf fell  so at anything. He was a good watchdog.

I do have my own dogs, and have for 40 some years, and they do bark, mostly when someone knocks, or they see someone walking by their yard, they are inside dogs.  Im not too fond of barking dogs either. BUT....You are in your own yard, you are WITH your dog at the time, and only playing, if your dog went over to her yard and started barking at her, or if you put your dog outside, and went back in the house and let it bark for 20-30 minutes thats a different situation.

Is she a new neighbor? If shes not a new neighbor, and has never complained before, maybe somethings going on with her life that is making her more edgy.

Sounds like she wasnt too fond of the dog she had, and I wouldnt purposely make your dog bark just to upset her

 :cat:

 :dog:

I have many dogs in this neighborhood that bark at all hours, for whatever reason, person walking, person on bicycle, car or delivery trucks, mailmen, or just a parked car in front!!

One gets started and mine has to go round until all of them are going at it !!

I think they are going to alert us no matter what they see and until I go out and look, it goes on and on with a full round of all the dogs taking turns!

There is no law against dogs barking, at least here in California.  They can file a civil lawsuit & sue but they'd have to prove the barking is damaging to their life in some way...  dogs bark, they're dogs.  Unless you're negligent & the dog barks all night or past the noise curfew -- we do have those --  I wouldn't worry about it.  If your neighbor is harassing you, it is you who could call the police, if she is yelling at your child to "stop" in their own back yard, you should start documenting & filing police complaints.

We have noise ordinances here, you can't use a mower or make noise prior to 7am.   My gardeners sit outside my home when they get here early & wait till 7am.     That hour of day light is wasted between 6am - 7am here.

Constant dog barking can be annoying but that doesn't appear to be your case so just annoy the neighbor and keep playing with your dog

I was just going to suggest this because my one dog barks all the time when he is in the yard but no has ever complained about him except me.  I always wonder what my neighbors think but not worried about it because he has never bit anyone.  There are numerous dogs around here and I swear they talk to each other.

If i was your neighbor and your gardener was doing quiet work between 6 and 7 AM id have no prob. But running a mower or blower is rude at that hr.Is it unfair that someone wants to sleep till 9am and doesnt wanna get up early to post on FC forum or they just dont give a *am about others cos they are miserable?

I don't think there should be any problem if it's not during "quiet hours."
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

It really is none of your business.  I also could care less if you think it is rude. Get over it.  As I already stated I need to mow when it is cool.  And yes the temp factors in quite a bit.  Not my fault if you want to stay up all night partying and doing drugs then sleep all day.

Not really.  Dogs are not made to just sit and bark all day.  I realize that is not the case in this situation.  But to say oh dogs bark get over it is insane.  My neighbor has 11 and they use to bark ALL the time.  ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT.  Kind of makes sleeping a little difficult with 11 dogs barking.  Some people have jobs and have to get up and go to work.

Read the orig post.  She was yelling for a DOG to stop barking not a CHILD to stop screaming.  And I can see where kids screaming all the time would get aggravating.  And contrary to what some people want to believe DOGS are not your CHILDREN.

lol.  Lawn mowers do not violate any type of ordinance.  The guy that lived beside me at the time is a waste of skin.  And like I said he did not have the guts to say anything to me.
