Autonomous vehicles
« on: October 24, 2019, 01:17:15 pm »
Well, this never happens to me. It'll probably be revoked.

FC Survey: Automotive Survey
Oct 24th   $2.80   Approved

Anyway, this survey was mostly about autonomous cars. Everyone talks about how much safer they are than human drivers, but think about all the times your phone or computer froze up, or crashed, or glitched. What would make the computer in a fast moving vehicle be any different? I really don't need my car glitching out on me at 70 mph. And besides, the best part of driving a car is doing the actual driving. I would get bored just sitting there. I don't need or want to be on my phone 24/7. I don't need to take a nap; I sleep in my bed. Reading or watching TV is out of the question, since I get carsick.

Will they even teach kids how to drive anymore? Will your 6-year-old be able to climb into the car by himself and go to school? Will all the delivery, taxi, truck drivers lose their jobs? What if you're in a situation where your car can either run over a child or drive off a cliff? Does the car decide whom to sacrifice? I don't know. It seems like there will be more negative consequences than benefits.  :-\

Why would it be revoked?  I done that one as well.  They may revoke mine when they read my answers. lol

I liked it when it said you can have your car drive you to work then send it home and have it come back and pick you up to avoid having to pay for parking.  Idk but I have never had to PAY to park in the parking lot where I was working.

As far as running over a kid or running off a cliff I would say you will run off a cliff.  If the car is guided by things like the SIRI then it will cause nothing but problems.  Those things have told people to turn where there were no roads, to go on one way streets the wrong way, as well as other things.  I think it is a disaster waiting to happen and "I" will NEVER ride in one.

Awesome survey, and I would welcome autonomous cars, I know I make a lot more errors than my computer.

Awesome survey, and I would welcome autonomous cars, I know I make a lot more errors than my computer.

But like the OP pointed out what happens when this auto car computer malfunctions and you are inside of this car being driven at 70 plus mph.  I honestly don't see this being a thing but you never know.  I am reminded of that Disney movie where everyone is a fat blob sitting in a chair they never get out of.  And it slides them around every where they need to go.  Seems like there are even hands that come down and put food in their mouth.
People are lazy enough.  I don't need some machine to do everything or anything for me.

Cool....thanks....and I'm in favor of autonomous cars....I drive a lot so it can be nice to be driven once in a while....

So hire a driver. :D

I don't want an automated car but I'd like to get surveys that pay that much

I haven't seen this one, but to have a car that drives itself is not at, at least to me, is not safe, I wouldn't own or drive it.

Yes, I've actually thought about autonomous cars quite a bit. Both of my college-aged boys are non-drivers and are waiting for autonomous cars to come out before they start "driving," LOL! I have a feeling, though, that once these cars come out on the market for folks to buy, some people that want to have every new technology right away are going to die due to unexpected glitches.  :(  Hopefully I'm wrong about that.  :peace:

I can't give that much control to a robot or computer.

I am not a fan of autonomous cars. I actually enjoy driving, am quite good at it and do not want my car making decisions for me. For those that want control of their ride taken away there are a great many cities that have extensive mass transit systems to meet your needs. My wife had a new Subaru Forrester that would beep every time it came close to a line. It also slowed down whenever you were within a certain distance of another object. I was pulling in between two cars, with her Forrester, with full permission of the vehicle behind me and the Forrester automatically slowed down which caused the car behind me to have to use it's brakes. This in turn probably caused several cars behind me to have to slow down. I found this to be quite unsafe.

Some of the technology they are using is great and is now almost standard in all new vehicles. However, I can't wrap my head sitting idle and letting the car drive itself.
