Are you a debater or a peace keeper
« on: November 17, 2019, 01:12:37 pm »
I don't have the mental energy to enjoy any but the most trivial joking kind of debate. Of course there are people who can manage to be offended even in a conversation like that. My position on nearly everything is that I don't care nearly enough to get into a debate about it knowing it's going to cause a funk with that person for a few days! I will restrict you to childproofed topics if you insist on offense-fishing.

Do you like to debate or would you rather play it safe and focus on things you agree about?

I enjoy listening to intelligent debate. I very rarely hear anything remotely resembling that. It involves thought and concentration and it works to solve problems.

When people are aroused by their emotions, which is happening in politics today, there is no thought process involved. I don't think most people like to take the time to really think about things nowadays. It's so easy to just hate.  :bad:

I'll join a debate if I know what the other person is talking about is clearly wrong but you know how that ends up...

I'm a peace keeper, because everyone don't see the glass full.

I am not going to sit and argue with anyone. I know what I believe. I know what is right. Some people just want to argue.  I guess it makes them feel important.

I am more of a peace keeper, at the end of the day each person has their own opinion and no matter how hard you try to get them to see another point of view  they  may still have tunnel vision and not change; so for me  I respect their opinion and just continue to agree to disagree without damaging  a relationship!

Mostly I'm a peacekeeper. There aren't many topics that I find interesting enough to debate about. But once in a while I enjoy a good-natured debate on a topic that can actually be debated without intense personal feelings flaring up. My husband doesn't enjoy debating at all, so I am pretty much a peacekeeper with him, LOL!  :peace: :peace: :peace:

Just because someone does not agree with your point of view does not mean they have tunnel vision.  Maybe YOU have tunnel vision.  Maybe YOU need to change your way of thinking.  See it goes both ways.  Everyone thinks they are correct or they believe what they do.  And you are right, no matter how hard you try to convince then you are right if they believe differently they are not going to change their views and agree with you.  So there is no point in a argument.  But most people can't respect another's point of view.  They have to stomp and spit and scream and try to force their opinion down your throat.

I agree to a point.  Sometimes I will voice my opinion but I am not going to sit and argue with some idiot who just wants to fight.  I use to work with a man who would make snarly political comments every morning.  I finally got tired of it and one morning I came in and set up to start working and he starts making snide comments.  Not to me but so I would hear (the comments were opposite of what I believe and support).  SO I gathered my things and went somewhere else to work.  Then he proceeds to be loud and obnoxious laughing and making fun of me.  The only response he got was "I have work to do" and I walked away.  That made him more mad because he wanted a huge "debate" or argument.  Luckily he is no longer a part of my life.  Now a different department puts up with him. haha

I am more of a peace maker.  I feel that I don't pay close enough attention to anything to have a real  good opinion to debate.  I also feel that it doesn't do any good to debate with family or friends, because other than a debate we aren't in a position to make a change to anything.  I would love for my brothers to debate with Politian's that I would almost pay to see that.

I'm definitely more of a peacekeeper. I will only debate if it's more of a friendly debate. You just can't win with most people  :-\
