The only social media I'm active on isn't one where I post anything personal so I do see a few accounts that make me wonder "why is this following me?" including not just weird people but clearly fake accounts. I don't spend the time blocking them all because I'm not sure what the harm is. They don't seem to interact with my content. It's just odd.

I would do exactly what you did and block them.  I don't get on twitter anymore but have had a period on facebook where I had all kinds of people want me to "friend" them and I blocked them as well.

Sometimes I think about quitting twitter. I get tired of the drama.

Twitter is not my real name and I don't post personal stuff.  I guess it just depends on WHO is doing the following.  I have quite a few followers and most I don't care.  But some clearly do not need to follow me.

Blocking them seems like the best thing to do.

There is a way to go in and block people who are following you. I don't remember how you do it though.

I would ignore it.

Why would I ignore it?  Why would I let what seems like a very suspicious person follow me?

I have not thought to check on twitter, I very seldom use it.

It shows in the notifications any action.  So it showed up that I had a follower.  I clicked the bio to see who it was.  I also block people who follow me and I look at their bio and it says their tweets are protected and I have to follow them and be approved before I can see their tweets.  Uh no.

I have followed back several that are in line with what I think.  I have 3 I followed back recently but have had to mute them because it is constant political crap and I am SO tired of seeing it.  Even though I do agree with what they are saying.  Just tired of having 100 posts on my time line that are political.  And then the idiots who want to argue with them.

I haven't ever blocked someone, but this would be a good time to start.

I don't follow anyone on any Instagram or twitter, I would block that person or persons, if it becomes a problem tell someone on that site.

I have 16,000 followers on Twitter -- I wouldn't hesitate to block anyone that made me uncomfortable or was just a troll.
If you don't know the person, & it seems really odd & random -- like James Woods used to say when he was active on Twitter:  #InstaBLOCK
