Zantac AKA Ranitidine Recall
« on: December 13, 2019, 09:40:30 pm »
When I found out about this recall, I was highly upset. It states that it can cause liver damage, stomach cancer, esophageal cancer among others. They say it had small amounts of a cancer causing ingredients in the medicine.  I went to the drug store and the shelves were empty. I'm leary on trying another medicine. What do you think? Have you heard? If you take heartburn medicine, which one do you take?

My husband was prescribed Zantac as a remedy for some issues he was having.  It caused more issues so he quit taking it.  My daughter has taken Zantac on and off for years.
Have a wonderful day!

I did hear about the recall, we have not used any of it in years. I hope we can find something better.

Didn't hear about it but my younger daughter experienced problems when she was put on it years ago.

I had been taking ranitidine daily for quite some time. Without it, I end up with some pretty bad heartburn on most days. I used to have (and was able to recently get once again) a prescription for pantoprazole. It works even better for me - don't need to take it daily. But with an insurance change a few years back, that Rx went from a minimal cost to an astronomical cost. That is what pushed me to start buying ranitidine just over the counter. I was able to get a decent rebate by switching pharmacies and going with a 90 day supply - and only taking it every 2-3 days will make that last much longer!

:cat: Medication recalls are always bad news for more than the companies issuing them. I hope those affected get their refunds and treatment for any adverse effects taking the medication might have cause tem. :turkey:

I have not heard about this recall, but if you notice side effects for a lot of medications it will cause lots of things that can harm you.

Be careful using proton pump inhibitors long term for heartburn. They can increase your risk of kidney disease. My husband used to take Prilosec and had recurring kidney stones. Not fun.  :(

I hadn't heard of the recall, but good to know.  My husband was just asking me this AM to check on something for him :o
