Sharpening knives
« on: August 14, 2020, 02:20:44 pm »
What do you use to sharpen your kitchen knives? I've gotta face that mine are dull as butterknives and I don't know whether I should buy a sharpener or just get a new knife. Never done it before so I'm not sure if it's worth it for a fairly low end knife.

I don't sharpen my knives. Depends on the knife. I would probably sharpen it. I think in the past we always used a whet rock.

My husband bought a knife sharpener and he's in charge of keeping our knifes sharp.  THey are fairly inexpensive and easy to use.

My husband sharpens our knives with a non-electric knife sharpener, kind of a little handheld gadget with two silver disks you pull the knife through over and over. I have to leave the room when he does it, because it sounds like fingernails on a blackboard to me, LOL!  :peace:

All the kitchen knives we have bought for the last I don't know how many years never have needed sharpened. I know I bought a set of steak knives 10 plus years ago and they are still good

I've used a piece of aluminum foil just keep folding it in smaller squares it and cutting is supposed to sharpen it.

Amazon has a huge selection of solutions to dull knives and of course every one claims to be the best. I use the "steel" that came with my knives until they get bad enough it doesn't work as well, then take them to a shop and have it done.

This just reminded my that I need to get a knife sharpener for one of my large knives. I usually see ones that have the slots but some people also use the sharpening rods.

I used to use a cinder block as an edge for sharpening our knives. Don't need it now. I also have a sharpener.

I think you can get a knife sharpener at the dollar store, it's nothining more than just a piece of brick.
