Inconsiderate neighbors
« on: September 12, 2020, 10:13:45 am »
I live in the last house on a dead end street.  There is a small parking area off the street for people in the apartment (there is 3 apts. so the parking area has 3 spaces)   The man across the street is sort of a junk collector.  Right now he has 6 or 7 cars/trucks/motorcycles and a riding lawn mower parked on the side of the road.  Some of them are parked 2 deep so that they are in the middle of the road.  It is sometimes very difficult for me to back out or pull into my parking slot.  Most of these cars I do not think are registered because before this they were sitting in his backyard for 2 years.

It just makes me really mad that he is so inconsiderate.  When he moved in a few years ago he said he understood that the parking was tight,  so he is aware. Just very inconsiderate.  I think the neighbor on the other side already called the police because of his junk leaning against her garage and junk cars dripping oil and anti freeze.

Does anybody else have a inconsiderate neighbor?

I am fortunate to have good neighbors in my area but I know my cousin has next door neighbors who have a bunch of large dogs who bark day and night and try their best to jump over the fence to attack anyone who goes outside. He can barely go in his own back yard. They keep saying they're going to do something about it but nothing happens.

There is a neighbor that, at times where they are having a party, they play their music so loud and all the way up until like 4:30 in the morning and it seem like it was frequent. I swear I have half a mind to call the cops but I think other neighbors will do it but I don't because it can't just be effecting me so...something like the bystander effect but for neighbors lol.

Thankfully where I live we all have at least 1 acre.  Where I lived before we had a neighbor who had parties every Saturday night.  The music was so loud you could hear it in your house.  My husband went a few times and asked them to lower the music, which they did, for about 15 minutes.  That was one reason when we moved we wanted a lot of land between houses.

Does your city have a code enforcement office? I'm not talking about police department but a specific department that investigates and enforces violations of city code or ordinances? If so, give them a call. They usually handle things like junk vehicles, uncut grass, and other health and safety nuisances. The kind of stuff you are talking about is usually covered by most standard nuisance codes and it sounds like he might be in violation.

I have good neighbors. We look out for each other.  There must be some city ordinance prohibiting that kind of behavior.

Oh, of course. Thankfully, this inconsiderate neighbor is diagonally across the street from me. Practically every evening, when he returns home from work, he honks his car horn to alert his family. His dog-faced wife comes out and starts hollering 'Daddy's home!' (either to their child or dog). I swear, it is very annoying. I sometimes have the urge to confront them directly about it or (more effectively) calling the police.

His dog faced wife? Really?  You can't call the police on him for "honking his horn" or for his wife "hollering daddy's home"  ::)

As for the junk cars the police can't do anything about that either if they are on his property.  If there is a city ordnance where you live they can make him clean it up or ticket him if he does not.....assuming they want to.  We have city ordinances where I am concerning how property is kept in the city limits but it is not enforced.  If he has cars parked in the street and it is impeding traffic you can call the police about that.  And again, it is up to them if they want to enforce it.  We had some people below us that use to park cars 3-4 on the street (which is not very wide) instead of using their driveway.  After a couple of phone calls to the police they decided to use their drive way.  And NO it was not neighbors that called.

I have just moved to an apartment, which is something new for me because I have always lived in a house.  I moved to be closer to my daughter and sold my house.  Before I moved into the apartment I stayed at my daughter's house.  Her neighbor behind her would have parties that would last late at night with loud music and cars parked everywhere.  Fortunately at my apartment it is fairly quiet.

Fortunately, we don't have inconsiderate neighbors.  I agree with the fact that you should check into ordinances to take care of that problem and make the call.  Sometimes just talking to the neighbor can help.

I think as far as junk in the yard goes,  I am the bad neighbor.  As far as other considerations.  I think all may neighbors are guilty of that.  One neighbor shoots fire works off randomly throughout the year.  Others seem to always want to let their company park infront of my house to the point that I have to go ask them to move so that I can go to work.

I moved from one side of town to the other a little over a year ago from a home we lived in for 30+years.  We lived on a cul-de-sac.  Neighbors changed a handful of times over those 30+ years.  We all took pride in our "circle" and kept it clean throughout those years.
Our current address is a bit different; but overall, neighbors here are also considerate of the neighbors.
It may be the benefit of living in a small town.
