I am not sure how I should feel about this since I have not taken the time to find out the background of why it has that name.(my fault). However, if it was named to honor someone, I think it is wrong to withdraw the honor, however, if the original reason was not honorable, it is ok to withdraw or change.  MY OPINION

I think it's PC nonsense. What is racist about having an elderly black man's face on a box of rice?

Nothing. If you are that sensitive then hide in your closet the rest of your life.  They should have just changed the picture to a white man and kept the name the same.  Honestly I never really even noticed or paid attention to the race of the man on the box. It never entered my mind.

I never paid attention to the man's face, either. I like the rice so I buy it.

We can't eat rice now, anyway, too many carbs.  Nothing stays the same. I'm just saddened by all the craziness going on.

I agree. Same with Aunt Jemima. Didn't they modernize her picture a few years back? Is it going to help? No, it's not.  Will they get rid of Betty Crocker? What about Oscar Mayer? Will those two name brands qualify as sexist?  I'm so tired of this crap. I guess I get upset because I grew up with those products and those names. They were "comfortable" names and quite original products. There are too many people in this country that are hurt too easily and/or sensitive over nothing.

It's funny you say you are upset over changing the name on a box of rice, and then go on to say people are hurt too easily. No offense intended and I understand what you're saying, but it made me chuckle to read this.  :)

Honestly, the name was not at the heart of the issue (unless "Uncle Ben" is a derogatory term for African-Americans as well, much like "Uncle Tom" is) in my opinion. I believe it was the logo. But whatever. Who cares?!
