I had 200k in student loans and they were forgiven thank GOD because I became permanently disabled.  When I first became disabled I was crushed because I worked hard to do what I needed to do but then I was able to get out from under this debt which has been a tremendous blessing.  I am happy you were able to give yourself the gift of paying yours off for your birthday  :present:

That's sad to hear but I'm glad you were able to have your loans forgiven. You don't need that extra burden.
Thanks debidoo!  :) :rose:

I worked three to four jobs at any given time during college and walked through the graduation ceremony debt free (I did not get straight A's as a side result). I have saved so that my kids will not have any student loan debt and have been rewarded with two kids that minimized the student loan debt burden by getting scholarships for both sports and academics. I am surprised by all of the kids that come to work at my day job (especially the lawyers) that have well over one hundred and fifty thousand dollars in outstanding student loans. That is a seemingly insurmountable amount of unsecured consumer debt and I can only imagine how it affects their credit score. I had a client that was looking for a house and when I reviewed his credit found that he had over two hundred thousand dollars in credit debt. I asked him why he was getting a house and he said that he would take a second mortgage out after two years of living at the new house, pay off the student loan debt, and than file bankruptcy to write off the second mortgage (ultimately his student loan). Not the route I would go but different strokes.

WOW! I hope to be able to have a college fund for my kids, too!  :)
But what an insane story - I can't even imagine having that much debt! Whew!  :o  I don't even like leaving balances on my credit card! I agree with you there!

I just paid off one of my student loans! One loan down, one more to go! Being THAT much closer to debt freedom has motivated me to pay this final loan aggressively.

I've paid off all my student loans for my birthday this year!!!     :present:

Have you ever had student loans? Are you still paying yours off?

Hi!

No Luckily I never took out loans I worked and pay for my schooling. I think loans can be a huge problem if you don't manage them well. Just be careful and borrow wisely ya.

It is awful in how much students have to pay to get an education.  My daughter has earned two bachelor degrees.  She was accepted into the Masters program and almost finished with that.

Yep, 20k. Still paying, but I'm thinking about getting a loan to pay it off. I went to a bank near me to ask for details about a loan, and God, it's worse than the one I already have. When I was looking for an alternative, I found out about https://cashcomet.co.uk/payday/15-minutes-direct-lenders/ online, and it seems to be a reliable company. They have better loan terms for me and my case, so it might be a solution. How did you guys pay off your student loan? Where did you get the money from? Would you trust a direct lender? I know, I have a lot of questions, but I need a piece of advice.

My daughter is still paying her student loans.  She will probably be paying them for a very long time.  It costs so much to go to college.

Yes, I have outstanding student loans, but to be honest they're not a top priority at the moment.

Exactly.  I advise everyone with outstanding loans to research your options.

Good for you!

Meanwhile, I'll be paying my student loans until I die!  :(  :(  :(

Thank you!

And oh no! The loans being put in forbearance due to COVID-19 helped a lot since I didn't have to pay any more interest.

I have $19k to pay. I am close to paying off my car and once that is paid off, that money will go towards student loans.

I agree! I'm going to have to have at least $50K saved for each kid I want to put through school in the future. That's so much money! :-[
