The Mayan calendar doesn't actually end in 2012.  The press just doesn't think running articles on how there have been artifacts discovered from the Mayans with dates after 2012 are worth running.

The movie looks like just another CGI-stuffed mess.  I'll probably watch it, think it looks cool, and forget about it by the time I get home.

they sid the same thing for 2000 so no not really but if it did then we could all take a step back and look at what we all have done to cause this and i dont mean personally cause this i mean governmently cause this....we pick fights for know reasons we destroy the earth for goods that she holds that we need to polute her air and we are burning holes in the ozone with hairspray i mean we all could afford to go eco friendly

It sells movies, books and newspapers if there is some kind of deadline for the world to end, Sensationalism sells and the media has to earn it's keep I guess. I think when and if the "world ends", it will be a random thing that just sweeps down all at once without warning.
