the trouble with messaging
« on: November 04, 2020, 06:55:03 pm »
My daughter posted on fb.  She says guess who got up took her daughter to school and dropped her off before she got a message that school was closed for a few weeks do to covid?  Hint It was she.  The school says they will have to check into why she wasn't messaged.  OK.  It's a very small school.  I think they could have made some calls and not even been charged long distance or data charges.  Or maybe announced it like you would for a snow day.  I don't know.  So there is the trouble with messaging.  Not getting it.

That's too bad that your daughter didn't get the message about the school closing before she dropped her daughter off.  Depending on the age of your granddaughter, it could have been a frightening situation for her.

Hopefully the school figures out how your daughter was missed in the notification process and will have the  situation fixed.

So it is the end of the world because she drove to the school and then it was closed? It is not that big of a deal.  Maybe the fault of not receiving it was on her end?  Will she then issue a public apology? You know since she issued a public attack instead of just privately contacting the school. ::)

Surely she did not just drop her off and drive away.  I mean she had to notice when she pulled up that there were no other cars there.  Surely she would not just leave a kid at the school with no one there.  The way I read it she did not actually drop her off.  Just went to the school and then it was closed.

The schools in my area are putting announcements on Facebook.  I don't know how else they contact parents if their child is affected.  I know people who work in the school system and they say you can not get a parent or guardian to answer the phone.  Either no one answers, it is a nonworking number, disconnected, or whatever. Then the parents want to get mad when no one called them.  It is not the school's fault if you miss the call or change your number and do not update your info with them.  And some people change their ph number like normal people change their socks. I guess trying to avoid bill collectors....

What the schools in my district do is all parents log into the child’s individual school.  On the school internet messages are placed so parents can read what’s going on.

I agree, the school should let you know if they are closing.  Our school also have the internet to let parents and student know what's going on.

I think notification should be sent to parents not students
