It surprised me as my son really loved it and when I read them, I didn't appreciate the racist angle. I thought those books are so children friendly and educational.

Actually, if you look up some of the black characters Dr. Seuss has drawn, its definitely understandable why those people would think its racist.

given the era in which most of the books were written idon't see them as racist. I enjoyed reading many of those stories to my students. :rose: :rainbow: :peace:

For Heaven's sake, people can find racism, or whatever they choose, in any innocent thing there was ever created.

Why should we listen to the cancel culture? They will always find something else to cancel. What a shame! Dr. Seuss is a vocabulary book that is entertaining to read. It is pointedly clear that it is just that. Why is that so difficult to explain?  ::)

Based upon this logic, I declare Barack Obama to be a racist sympathizer. That no good dirty racist President and his evil wife Michelle should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!!!

Now this is racism and he says it out loud.  Of course he wouldn't think of it as racist.  Where the hell does Barack Obama and Michele Obama come into it?  Again, racism will spill out of ugly, cowardly  mouths yet again.  Sad really.

I haven't yet looked to see which 6 books are considered problematic/being discontinued but I agree that it would probably be easy to see how people might see similarities in his other work.
Despite the contents of those specific books, it isn't as if he did not blatantly publish racist imagery (targeting Black and Japanese people) on other occasions.
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

Where the hell does Barack Obama and Michele Obama come into it?

Read the link I provided if you missed it the first time. The Obamas [legitimately in my opinion] sang the praises of this wonderful children's author just a few short years ago. Now many of his books are being labeled as "racist". Surely, if that were truly the case, the former President and First Lady - who are not stupid people by any stretch of the imagination and are champions of the cause against racism - would have recognized this then and never would have said the positive things they did about Dr. Seuss:

- "pretty much all the stuff you need to know is in Dr. Seuss"
- "We're all the same, so why would we treat somebody differently just because they don't have a star on their belly?"
- "We love Dr. Seuss in this house."
(all direct quotes attributed to either Michelle or Barack)

Seuss died in 1991. And as far as I can tell, nothing has changed since he first published these stories and illustrations long before that. Nothing new has been infused into these books, no new editions have been published, nobody maliciously inserted new racist language or artwork. Are you trying to tell me that in 2021, we have experienced a new revelation of racism in this man that Barack and Michelle so highly praised just six years before? Were they blind to his racism or did they just choose to sweep it under the rug and hope that nobody would notice?

Of course my earlier reference to the Obamas as racists was sarcasm, but it was meant to prove a point. The mob mentality of the cancel culture is absolutely destroying our civilization. But if we as a society are willing to dig up past history of things certain people said on social media years ago in order to propagate the whims of today's cancel culture and then viciously attack those people today, how is what I have done in declaring the Obama's racist any different than that?

Again, racism will spill out of ugly, cowardly  mouths yet again.  Sad really.
The "really sad" part is where self-righteous people manufacture racism where none exists in effort to make themselves feel superior and more 'woke', yet refuse to address legitimate instances of racism or oppression where it clearly exists.  I am struggling here and maybe some one else can help me. I cannot decide if this scenario is more akin to the boy who cried wolf or to the boy who proclaimed that the emperor had no clothes. In either case, it is a complete perversion of reality.

Cancel culture is something that certain liberalasses made up to keep us divided. They don't want unity or people showing kindness to others. They don't want the different races to get along. We weren't perfect but even just a few years ago, most people were united and got along. Then along come the hate for the former president and it snowballed into hating each other. The liberassess found out that it could keep people apart, unhappy and a way to attack certain races with vindictiveness. As long as we are all separated, it's easy to change this country into something it's not.

Even Biden is into cancel culture. He called for unity and in the very next breath called people Nazis and chumps. He is now separating class and race like Obama did by showing favoritism to one over the other by class, race, gender, and religion. That's not unity. It makes one hate another. People need to wake up and see what's going on...who is behind the cancel culture. Hollyweird people are elitists and have no idea what it's like to have a normal life but they push cancel culture because they think they're voice is worth more than those beneath them. Ignore them! Don't listen to them! Other people make up the sheeple who follow people like Hollyweird. That's why Twitter is so "great" in their eyes. Get back to the way you used to treat people.

Why can't people just leave things alone?  Before you know it you can't do anything or read anything because it might offend someone.
