New cat
« on: June 11, 2021, 03:58:27 am »
Well after searching for a new cat I found one.  As you may or may not know, I only adopt cats and dogs that no one else would adopt.  I found this guy, his owner had dumped him and  he was in a high kill shelter in Maryland.   A rescue from my area  pulled him and other cats from that shelter.  He’s 14 years old, has mega colon, heart mummer. And is diabetic.  He was in my local rescue over 1 year with no applications.  He is now safe locked in one of my bedrooms (I brought him home last night). Today is a busy day for him, he goes to my vet for a checkup and then will slowly be introduced to my other cats, then eventually the dogs, then will have the whole house to call his own.  I think he will be ok, he’s sitting on my lap already when I go into the bedroom to visit. 🐾🐾

Great what your doing he is an older cat. Still needs a home. I have one cat doesn't seem to like other cats much . Will put up with one stray who comes around for food, but not for that long.

That is so wonderful that you took one that probably would have lived the rest of his life in the shelter.

That's fantastic. I could never do that. It would break my heart if something would happen to them. I still mourn our last dog (had to be put down 7 years ago) and my last cat (died 12 years ago). A feral came into my life and I was never able to catch it to get it fixed. Well, you know what happens if not fixed. Well, after the years, I was down to 5 adults from 13 but 4 were females and I couldn't get near any of them, let alone capture for fixing. Eight weeks ago, I wound up with 12 kittens which I'm not happy about. I was only able to get two of them used to us so far. The rest run like he**.  It's hard because I can't sit on the porch (they are under the porch) or I'll never be able to get up again.  I've practically begged the rescue shelters for help just to catch the moms to get them fixed but no luck. Also wouldn't take any of the kittens from 3 years ago. Sometimes I'm tempted to stop feeding all of them but I just can't do it. So, what to do.

I agree with santa7. You are definitely a keeper, Nancy5!

I believe being kind to animals makes you feel closer to God.  :angel11:

Update on new cat, took him to vet and got clean bill of health.  Slowly introduced him to all the other cats, one at a time, laid back ones first, then last to the feisty ones.  No problems, I think because he was in a few different rescues he was used to other cats, and my cats are used to constant new additions.  They probably say  ‘oh here comes another new one” lol.  I have the dogs in the family room with a baby gate closed.  The new guy has free run of the house except family room and soon I will start the dog introduction which I think will be no problem as they get along with my cats now.
