It always increases in January, but never enough for people to live on.

I am on Social Security too and it would be nice if we got a decent raise and that insurance doesn't go up too.  Everything you buy now has increased, but the pay remains the same.

I think it's a lot more practical to work on reducing our expenses than wishing for a bigger handout. We do pretty well on Social Security only because we have so few expenses since the house and cars are paid for.

I wouldn't consider it a "handout" people earned and worked hard for their SS benefits !!

Usually, when the COLA goes up, so does the Medicare cost to 90% of what the COLA paid. You can't win on Medicare. This year my extra health increase plus Medicare costs $300 a month. Medicare used to give me my lancets and test strips free but this year they're charging $8, and my gap insurance pays nothing towards those items.  I'm not complaining about paying the $8 but it was nicer when they cost nothing. :)   It would be nice if these insurances (including Medicare) would stop raising their rates, taking away all all of the COLA or more.

Since I have been on Social Security over 20 years, I have used up the part I paid in long ago. Now it's just a well appreciated handout.
