aspartame and asclaflume potassium are not positive substitutes for sugar. Just because it's sugar free does not mean it's okay to divulge into said products. Having diabetes means you need to change your lifestyle completely. Not shift it to something else.

You are free to make your own decisions, but I have been swallowing chemicals for 71 years and I'm doing just fine. I live my life to enjoy it, not spend it worrying about one report after the other predicting my sudden death if I don't march to their drum. I happen to enjoy eating whatever I like and drink diet sodas by the case.

I use calorie free sweeteners too, but the sugar free candy and cookies and stuff like that, also can have sugar alcohols in it, so watch out for them! At first I didn't realize it and then I kept testing high until the nurse at my doctors office told me that was why, but there are quite a few good websites for desserts for diabetics and I bake with splenda (the kind that is for baking, it measures just like sugar) just look around online lots of great resources out there.

Just be careful and recognize that sugar free doesn't mean low carb. I have been diabetic over 10 years and find all kind of so called diabetic food with low sugar that has super high carbs.
