Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of people talk about prefab ADUs around Los Angeles. I’m curious if they’re really a good option compared to traditional builds. I want to add an ADU to my property for my parents, but I’m not sure if prefab models are durable or just a faster, cheaper alternative. Has anyone gone through this process recently or have some first-hand experience with prefab units in LA?

I actually went the prefab route last summer, and it turned out great for me. The process was way quicker than a stick-built ADU, and the quality was surprisingly solid. The main advantage is that most of the work is done off-site, so you deal with fewer delays and weather issues. You still need city permits and inspections, of course, but a good adu builder can handle all that for you. I liked being able to see the model beforehand, and the installation took only a few weeks once the foundation was ready. It’s been perfect for renting out, and the tenants love it.
