a gallon well it's suppose to happen because of the farmers and the fiscal cliff thing.the story is on cnn or msn one of those.better not i'm a real milk fan that would be twice as expensive now it's about 3.50 a gallon.
-
7.00 a gallon for milk will really hurt the families with kids! And think of the school system! :bs:
-
I hope it never gets that high! I just got it on sale at my local Kroger for 2.79!
It's normally 3.09! I have a two year old who LOOOVVVEESS his milk we prollably go through a gallon every 3 days!
If It goes up any higher it would be cheaper buying a cow! :P
-
milk 7.00 Well I saw it on the news yesterday on CNN too, I hope it want get any higher I love baking. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:
-
I hope milk doesn't get that high. If milk goes up then a lot of the dairy will, cause of milk. :sad1:
-
The cost of food is steadily climbing.
I am amazed a can of Campbell's Soup is $1.49.
-
ouch thats gunna hurt if that truely happens. we only pay 2.59 here thanks to kroger
-
The dairy industry is already hurting. If a price like that happened anytime in the near future this will definitely convince people to consider alternatives. My family already rotates between standard milk and soy.
-
I love milk. In utah its about 2.50 a gallon if it got that high that would be a catastrophe!
-
If the prices to milk alternatives such as rice milk or almond milk don't increase people might start drinking them.
-
well then somebody's not going to be drinking milk
certainly not paying $7
-
The cheapest price for milk in my neighborhood is $4.65 and I think that is outrageous. Hopefully the $7.00 a gallon thing is an exaggeration.
-

WOW :o :o :o 4.65 for a gallon!!! Your are right that is OUTRAGEOUS!
I hate paying 3.00 when its not on sale can't imagine paying 4.65
And we go through a lot of milk!
Is it me or does something not seem right here???
-
We've been using soy , and sometimes coconut, milk in our household for awhile now so this won't affect me that much. Still, $7.00 a gallon is just crazy! I can't believe the dairy industry is doing that badly. Wow!
-

I think thats the cost we're pay here but i don't know that some places went up $7 already!. Let hope itwont climb more..

I did not know that Kroger has some of the cheaper milk. I recently paid $3.98 for a gallon of milk at CVS pharmacy. I thought the milk was a little pricey, but I was in a hurry and trying to get to work. Since, CVS was close to my house and saved me some time, I bought the milk. Yet, I was glad when a found milk at a local supermarket for $2.88. But, Kroger's $2.50 milk sounds even better.
-
7.00 wow,,i hardley drink it now defintley wont be drinking if it cost that much! :icon_rr:
-
My kids drink milk like crazy. Better look into buying a cow.
-
We try to buy milk when it is on sale. Then i pour out , oh maybe a cup and a half into a jar and then freeze the rest of it. It saves a lot. Milk is about $4 a gallon here. And we have a lot of dairys in out state. But with draught and the cost of fuel getting feed in, it is going to go up. You can't blame the dairy men for it. Of course the high cost of fuel has hurt everyone. Some dairies are haveing feed shipped in all the way from Canada and we are in N.M. and with the cost of diesel wow.
-
We don't drink much milk anymore but my youngest granddaughter is allergic to milk so she has to drink the lactaid milk which is over $3.00 at Walmart. I keep her during the day when her parents are working and sometimes I buy her milk. If reg. milk goes to $7.00 bet her milk would be really high. Don't see how most people can handle much higher food prices; I know my husband and I can't.
-
I heard about this too. I certainly hope that's not the case - we're in enough trouble money wise in this country without something like that to make things worse for everyone.
-
Between gas and milk I won't be able to afford to drive to the store anyway... >:(
Hopefully that won't actually happen.
-
Milk here is already at 4.00 a gallon. I would hate to give up milk but I do believe I will be doin that.
-
I hope not, that's crazy
-
WOW $7.00 it may be cheaper to get a cow! :o
-
We don't have that problems because we do not drink milk. Asuggestion. Switch to Almond Milk. It's not near as expensive and is much better for the body. Nut milk is especially good in coffee, and can be used for cooking and baking as well. We buy almond milk from the health food store. Blue Diamond is the brand.
Mainstream milk is FULL of anti-biotics and steroids. Genetically engineered bovine growth hormone.

A significant association between high circulating IGF-I concentrations and an increased risk of lung, colon, prostate and pre-menopausal breast cancer has recently been reported. Soy milk isn't much better since most soy is also GMO, plus the fact it will make one more estrogen dominant. Rice milk is okay, but could possibly make too much phlegm in the body.
If one must drink cow's milk, then switch to Raw milk, which hasn't been tampered with, or use goat's milk. Look up Weston A. Price.
Regarding calcium, it's best to get the calcium from natural sources and supplements. Calcium phosphate is what bones are made from. You can get a good calcium supplement and search the internet for monosodium phosphate. You can also get a good quality Vitamin D3. We get our D3 from Biotics Research and/or Synergy. That can also be found online. Also for bones, we take an organic silica product. We use Orgono G5 Silica. Besides building bones, it also helps to rebuild the teeth, collagen/elastin in the skin, joints and ligaments. Best stuff ever! We also take colloidal minerals from Youngevity and OsteoFX Plus.
Here's an article from Natural News....
(NaturalNews) How many times growing up did kids hear things like, "Milk does a body good" or "Got milk?" How many times did mom tell her children, "Drink your milk so you have healthy teeth and bones"? Americans have heard growing up that they must consume milk or suffer dire consequences when, in fact, drinking milk is what's dangerous.
Milk isn't always bad. Mother's milk -- that is, human milk -- provides a growing infant with all the nutrition he needs for the first six months of his life. In fact, human breast milk is designed by nature to be the perfect food for human infants. Similarly, cow's milk is designed by nature to be the perfect food -- for calves, not for human beings.
According to Robert Cohen, Executive Director of the Dairy Education Board and NOTMILK.com, milk consumption is to blame for a variety of health woes, including the following:
* breast cancer
* diabetes (both diabetes mellitus and juvenile diabetes)
* kidney stones
* acne
* heart disease
* osteoporosis
* multiple sclerosis
* stroke
* rheumatoid arthritis
So why is milk so bad, and how does it cause all of these and other health problems? According to Vivian Goldschmidt, founder of Save Our Bones, there are a variety of myths surrounding milk consumption. One of the first myths, she says, is that drinking milk creates healthy bones because of the calcium found in the milk. However, the animal protein found in milk actually depletes the human body of calcium, exactly the opposite of what milk drinkers expect it to do.
In much the same way, she also dispels another milk myth, that drinking milk will help reduce bone fractures. She cites sources that show that higher milk consumption can actually be linked with an increase in bone fractures. Further, she also states that milk is a "processed food." Milk is pasteurized and homogenized, and the cows that produce the milk are given hormones and antibiotics (which, of course, wind up in the milk). Goldschmidt then links hormonal additives to cancer.
Ultimately, Cohen, Goldschmidt and hundreds of others want Americans (and, in fact, every human being on the planet) to get this message: Say 'No' to Milk!

I heard that on t.v. that's outrageous me and my children drink milk everyday I have hot coco everyday

Well TV is another problem, because TV is controlled by corporate interests, which do not have OUR best interests at heart. TV is a tool to sway us to THEIR ways of thinking. A FOX news reporter was fired, because they were going to blow the whistle on the entire milk industry. However, the story was put on YouTube. Do a search on that too.
Our world is run by corporate interests. Bankers, The Fed, pHARMaceutical corporations which are all self-serving.
-
milk here is about $3 a gallon, give or take a few cents depending on where you get it. I hope it doesn't go up anymore :(

Very well said! I switched to coconut and almond milk, when I first came to know about this a couple of years ago, and have always felt good about that decision of mine.

RE: Milk I SAW ON THE news This Morning on the news Milk would Cost $8.00 Instead of $7.00. :sad1:
-
I think I'll try the Almond milk.
-
we would have to go with dry milk or can milk
-
Unfortunately there would be a huge cut back in milk in my household. As much as my family drinks milk I would go broke for sure!
-
I did not watch the news, so I wasn't aware of this. It'll be a big blow to many families. Will this be a nationwide thing or a particular brand or in a particular state? Average gallon of milk price here is around $3.49, but it can be found cheaper like $2.99 or a little more expensive like $3.99.
-
I heard about that! It's insane! Like someone else said, it'd be cheaper to buy a cow! :o
-
milk is usually the same price as a gallon of gas, and unless you expect gas to skyrocket to &4 i wouldnt worry much. google it, ask. com, wikepedia it...milk is historically the same price as gas :dontknow:
-
I hope milk doesn't get that high. If milk goes up then a lot of the dairy will, cause of milk. :sad1:
I can see what you mean. Dairy has definitely gone up where we live.
I hope that doesn't happen. We only buy 1 or 2 gallons a month, but that would be a steep jump. We have been able to find milk as low as below $2 a while back. But it's pretty much about $2.50 or so right now. The milk was at Aldi's mainly which explains the prices.
-
I hope not I think milk is already to high, and I only buy two gallons a month as it is. I realize everyone is having problems but I feel the poor people are the only ones taking a hit You wont see government cutting back on milk, and those who don't have to worry about money wont either. My Husband is getting a SSI raise of $12 but we lose $ 6 of it in the food stamps so we only gaine $6 how is that fair.
-
Folks it is not the farmers causing the problem with the milk going up. Try the cost of fuel, having to import feed as far away as Canada because of the draught. The middleman is the one making the most. Do what a lot of other families are doing right now and that is buying a gallon and splitting it and then adding powdered milk to make 2 gallons. It is better for you any way. Makes it lower in fat. Daries around her are having to close down. They just cannot afford the cost anymore. Let the govt. get off their duffs and do something about the cost of fuel and thatwould help. It is now costing some of these long haul and short truckers over a $1000. everytime they fill up now. And all of that has to be added to th cost of whaever is being shipped and then of course the cost processing and it goes on.
-
I'm begining to agree more and more with Warren Buffet. If the Congress and Senate cannot get a handle on this in 2 years they are out of office, let a new group come in with some fresh ideas. PERIOD. As is they do not deserve a special retirement plan and special insurance FOR LIFE. It is sometime hard to listen to them spout off about people who are using the system when you take a look at the benefits they get FOR LIFE. As it is, I already use powdered milk for everything I can, cooking, hot chocolate. Milk is not the only thing that will go up, but it is a good one to use to scare people because it is in 99% of the households. Vickysue has it right and everything is going to skyrocket.
-
So.... if you're republican then it's ok to give government money to farmers, but NOT ok to give government money to starving, poor children?
Just trying to understand your mindset.
-
my family loves milk, but I will not pay $7-$8 for a gallon of milk.
-

I agree that it isn't the farmers fault they are suffering just as much as the rest of us. We are all suffer since the 2001 attacks and now we are suffering for it.
-
WoW~ :o
I haven't heard that story on the news. I think by hearing this, made me much more thankful that I get WIC vouchers! My husband and I work, but we still qualify for WIC. I only have a year of it though, since my son is 4 and he's only eligible until he is 5 years old!
I love milk and would hate for milk to be that expensive. Let's hope that it stays at $3.45 a gallon! :crybaby2:
:peace: ~workmama~
-
if it gets to be 7.00 i wouldnt be buying it Right now i can get it at walamrt for about 1.99 a gallon
-
Good thing I don't drink milk :P
-
Milk prices are artificially low, which is why they will rise soon. I live in PA, where prices are so low, the farmers are subsidized to the point of the ridiculous. Let the market dictate the price and we will see it adjust and fluctuate to where it should be. In the meantime, I'll be purchasing my dairy where I've been purchasing it before, which is from farmers who sell raw/unpasteurized milk. That market works like a charm.
-
The House and Senate today developed a short-term farm bill extension that would keep the price of milk from skyrocketing. They could vote on it as early as tonight.
-
I hope the price won't get that high or a regular milk drinker like me will sure cut down.
-
First of all, I think the whole fiscal cliff thing is a clever trick played on the American people by the dems and Repubs.
-
That is crazy!!
-
What! prices going up on everything. Diet coke they use to be larger in size but the price went up & the bottle shrunk in size. 2gallons look like half a gallon....
-
we pay 3.89 a gallon here, and go through 3-4 gallons a week, so sooooooo hoping that they dont go up that high!
-
I hope milk doesn't get that high. It would be a real strain on the my brother's family as he has 4 boys and they all love to drink milk. Also, it would probably mean that everything else would rise as well.
-
I hope not..i'm not a milk fan,but my husband and youngest granddaughter are. They have to have their mil for their day to be complete. And definitely a glass before bed....yuckkkkkkkkkk
-
Greed will out every time. I know dairy farmers have to make a living also, but the stores mark the prices up 500% because it's always money first and people way down on the totem pole. I feel sorry for families who have to by Milk for their families to drink. They will need an extra job just to buy Milk.
-
Whoa!... I hope that doesn't happen because I LOVE milk! It's already about $3.99 & we have to wait to buy it when it's on sale @ Walgreens for about $3.00. That's already too high! :angry7:
-
we dont drink milk but the grands sure do they dump tons of chocolate syrup in and a couple drops of milk and drink it down LOL
-
I love milk but I don't drink it as much as i should. I usually need it more for cooking. $7.00 a gallon is extremely high....I'm scared more prices will go up in 2013 if the economy continues on a downfall. Best wishes to everyone in the New Year...
-
You know why that it is making the News!!Because the Govt wants a deal on the FC. Your money is going to them anyway, weather the govt gives it to them in farm subsities or you pay for it in price at the grocery store. This is what people don't understand -let the private market work instead of giving all these companies govt subsities. Do you know that GE, probably the largest company in the US did not pay any taxes in 2011 because of all the subsities and write off's. If they paid their fair share and we did not give all this money out to everyone we could probably save thousands on our taxes and then we would not worry if the milk went up to $7 a gal. GE groses about 20B a year. The Govt is telling the farmers not to produce milk and giving them money not too produce, how does that work for you!!We have more milk in this country and also exports than we can consume, that is why the Govt is paying the farmers to cut back on the production.!!
-
Yikes! That is insane expensive! Lucky for me I am only spending around $3 for gallon, I couldn't imagine paying $7.
-
I use powdered milk as I usually only use it in cooking, baking, and some with cereal.
-
I don't think we will see this. The whole fscal cliff thing is a bit of a political snow job. They all know exactly what is happening and they have had over six years to come up with a solution. Just OB trying for more splash.
-
THAT IS WAY WAY TO MUCH FOR A GALLON OF MILK IT'S JUST PLAIN INSANE!!!!!!!!!
-
Milk causes diabetes and obesity any way. It really is not as good for you as we have been led to believe.
-
Our milk has been running on average about 2.89 if it does go up higher I don't know what we are going to do. We are already on a tight budget. :sad1:
-
If it really goes that high what are homes with kids and the schools, daycare centers, etc sppose to do? :BangHead:
-
$7? ooo... hope not!
i usually buy organic from whole food: $5+ a gallon.
-
I don't think the fiscal cliff would have caused a huge difference in the price of milk, but the ongoing drought throughout the Midwest will certain cause an uptick in dairy prices in the future. The price won't double, but it will go up.
-
THATS JUST INSANE PLUM NUTS FOR MILK TO BE THAT EXSPENIVE
-
for real? i didnt hear about this. it will be stupid if milk goes up that high. i have to drink it for my kid and myself and i drink alot of it.
-
And here we were concerned about gas prices. This is absolutely ridiculous. What kind of world are we living in that it costs your life to survive. This is an outrage. There are still people that don't even make 7.00 an hour. This is an outrage.
-
Wow better find a different kind of milk then. ><
-
I hope it doesn't get that high, that's ridiculous! Peanut butter is almost $5 for a decent sized jar as it is.
-
I've tried Almond milk and it's pretty good. It's a cheaper alternative to cow's milk.
-
I will not pay 7$ for milk it is just bad for us to have to pay 7$ for milk so I say we need to get some thing going so we do not have to pay all of that money like that so that you are not going to pay that money for milk. if they wont that money from me they will not get it I do not need milk like that all the time so let they pay for it not me.
-
I guess the market has to charge for the cost of giving hormone shots to the cows.
I don't drink it anymore.
There are other sources of vitamin D and calcium - those wonderful veggies
AND that is another fight we have on our hands with MONSANTO.
Some families, if able, are starting their own gardens, even in the city.
-
We quit buying milk awhile ago as it was alreasdy to high. We have tried almond milk and like it, it is good for baking and cooking.
-
I heard the same thing...I had to get a gallon yesterday and it was $3.73......Outrageous!!!
-
i would be tempted to buy a cow..lol. 3 bucks a gallon is bad enough...
-
i hope not!! i play $3 a gallon as is.
-
milk is about 3$ here and i want it to stay that way coz that is my drink of choice sometimes.
-
I hope milk doesn't get to $7 a gallon. That is ridiculous! If they want to increase the price of everything then they should increase how much people get paid to work. How do they expect people to feed their families.
-
I just bought a half gallon of milk for $1.98, but we don't drink to much milk in my house.
-
That's insane. Wow, really hope that doesn't happen.
-
Still $2.65 in my place and thank god we don't drink lots of milk.
-
;D I’m glad subsidies are no longer available for milking cows into exhaustion leading to their deaths. If anyone complains about the increase cost of milk hurting families and children will need to rethink again. It’s not comparable to the pain and suffering these cows have to go through repeatedly who are injected with hormones just to provide you a drop of milk which should have fed to her calf. Most newborn calves are instantly torn away from the mothers who never got a chance to bond & feed only to be slaughtered for veal. There is NO excuse for exploiting animals for profit.
Still think it's :bs:? The only milk for humans is breast milk which is real food for newborns. Children who are fed breast milk at early infancy have better health and immune system than those fed on formulas. There are other alternatives (almond, rice, coconut milk etc.) available as already mentioned by other members.
-
I guess if the soymilk goes down they'll make lots of money. Water with cereal just wouldn't be the same.lol
-
We can find milk here on sale at Aldi's for $1.99. ;D At $7.00 I will have to give it up. :BangHead:
-
Milk prices are kept up by the government as are sugar prices and some other things. They are subsidized by the government (meaning the taxpayers) and the government doesn't allow the prices to go below a certain level.
-
I'm really glad the fiscal cliff has been put off for right now :angry7:
7 bucks for milk my butt. hah
-
I didn't hear about congress passing anything on this, but I'm sure they did - milk is still $3.50 or so here.
-
I don't buy milk, but I cannot imagine spending $7 on one gallon. Even when I did buy it, we bought a half gallon at a time because it always seemed like we were throwing some out because it didn't all get drank before it started turning.
-
If that happens im only buying 1 gal a week
-
That's a lot :o I hope it doesn't go higher than what it is now !
-
We go through a gallon of milk a day, I was thinking we should buy a cow!
-
That's way too much. I have to quite milk.
-
I'm not all for it, but it's kinda amazing how milk hasn't really risen in a while. I just hope it doesn't jump that drastically. We buy a few gallons a week so that high a price hike will really start cutting into our budget.
-
a gallon well it's suppose to happen because of the farmers and the fiscal cliff thing.the story is on cnn or msn one of those.better not i'm a real milk fan that would be twice as expensive now it's about 3.50 a gallon.
Yes that is true :-[ The farmers will not receive the subsidiaries lost by going over the fiscal cliff :bs:
-
We do not buy but about a gallon a week and right now it is around $4.00. If it goes to $7.00 then we will either stop drinking it or maybe try powdered milk....I have heard that it is not that bad. Does anyone use it or have you tried it?
-
I guess, its a good thing that I'm willing to give up my milk and start juicing instead :)
-
If milk will be $7, then I am going to make my own soy milk!!!
-
i'm really dreading it since we go through 4-5 gallons a week here :(
-
That will be the day I spend 7 dollars for milk. I'll be drinking more water now!!
-
I am not a milk drinker whatsoever, to be honest...maybe it would be a good thing, so many people truly have worse allergy problems due to milk, cheese products. The government might be doing the American people a big favor by raising the prices!! On the other hand, my husband is a huge milk drinker and I don't think it would matter the prices he will buy it and we would just have to cut some place else.
-
I am glad I am not a Milk drinker. My body doesn't like it or tolerate it. But prices just continues to increase on everything.
