I have 2 cats and one is inside and loves being inside from November-May,the other is hardcore(not even coming inside with 1 degree temps and runs and disappears when I try to grab her while she eats or drinks water, but she looks and acts healthy so she must have a good hiding place. I have neighbors with dogs who purposely leave the animals out in frigid temps so they don't get bothered...aholes !!!!!

People who leave animals outside are stupid, where i'm at it's -45 windchill. There are feral cats around where I live and I see one all the time I've lived here 6 years and the cat i see has a pack of kids and their kids and so on. She is pretty smart for old girl lots of them have been carried off by eagles ! I started feeding her when i first moved in BAD idea she had lots of friends !! Had to stop when her extended family took up camp under my shed.

We have 2 dogs and one loves to be outside in even in the cold. Since it has been below zero here and the backyard is full of icy snow he has changed his mind about laying out there. But he still likes to stand out there and bark until his paws get to cold
-
My cats are indoor, thank goodness.
-
absolutley not!!!! :cat: :dog:
-
All my animals are inside. The cats are 100% inside cats. The dogs go out (fenced in yard) in spring, summer, fall and will play or lay in the grass for periods of time, but with our weather now, no. They go out to do their business and come right back in. It’s too cold for any animal or person, to be out in this cold weather.
-
I should hope there is no one with pets outside. That would be horrible.
-
I couldn't leave any pet outside - could let them go out here and there, but need to have them home at night, inside - nice and toasty, comfy and happy! :dog: :)
-
I put the outside cat in the garage on cold nights. She likes it ok tonight I'm freezing it's only 55 degrees seems colder.
-
My hardcore cat finally gave up her outside ways for a lil bit,Heard her crying at 5:30 am and she finally came inside when temps outside were in the low teens and first thing she did was drink a pint of water. Now we'll see how long she'll stay in and sleep on a comfy warm extra blanket next to her sister ?
-
i have 2 cats...both were strays..so used to the outside...one of them still is more of an outside cat than the other..the 1st one was a feral cat and is outside no matter how cold..we try to keep him in..the other one has completely turned into an inside cat....but with the cold we try to keep them in
-
The outside dog like the couch better then outside right now. When he first came we could not even get him in the house.
-
My cat :cat: stays inside. I did have a cat that loved it outside at wintertime in the day but not nighttime.
-
The temps around here in mid-Michigan have been averaging around zero or below sometimes with the wind chill. If I saw a cat or dog outside and knew it was somebody's pet, I would contact them about letting them inside.
My neighbor's dog likes to go outside into the fenced back yard no matter the weather but she checks about every 15-20 minutes to see if the dog wants to come back inside. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't However, it never stays out more than around 90 minutes in this weather. What's funny is her grown son has a husky and she "dogsat" while they went on vacation recently. That dog liked to be outside 3-4 hours at a time. Only once night came and the really freezing temps were here would the dog go in and stay until the next morning.
-
Nope, my "children" stay in the house with me. I can't imagine leaving a defenseless animal out in the cold.
-
...aholes !!!!!
Sorry but leaving your cat outside whether you think she has a good place to hide is no better
-
Most of the cats I've had are indoor cats. I got one outdoor cat for Christmas when I was five years old. We lived in Illinois in some pretty frigid temperatures, but Cisco would want to be outside in it, no matter what the weather. He'd come in the house to eat and drink and sometimes sleep, but he'd terrorize everyone in the house in order to go back out again. He just wanted his FREEDOM, LOL! :peace:
-
Hey catchow being unable to catch my one cat isn't neglect,I have a bad back and the cold makes it tighter and I can't be chasing her around esp. when she's faster than me,so you're being an ignorant and rude ahole. Add to that she's a loud and destructive cat when she's "trapped" inside, she's the type of animal that unless she decides it's time to come in she's staying outside and doing what she likes.

I have a second set of kids that Momma was kind enough to birth here this year. She had 5 kids but one died trying to cross the road, so I'm left with 4 beauties plus Momma. I named the runt No. 5 because it's always the last one to come to dinner, a very light gray, and a pure black with white paws I named Boots who thanks me for feeding them and giving them a place to sleep...too bad I haven't been able to really socialize them but they are getting more trusting. Then there's the other 2, regular tigers and one looks like Momma. They run and hide if i even look at them. Pure feral are those two.
We were loaned a very large dog carrier which I put blankets inside, a thermal warming pad, a blanket over the top to stop the cold from coming in the "side holes" and hubby cut a pair of legs off his worse pants which he hung on the front to stop the cold. i also used an old bath carpet for the wire door (clipped with giant binder lips) to cover the rest of the front to keep the cold out. All 5 sleep in there but sometimes the kids go under the porch when it's not as cold. i just ordered an outdoor heating water bowl to keep their water from freezing because the temps are in the 'teens during the day and single digits at night (-3 last night) and I have to give them fresh water every couple hours.
For doing genealogy research for a friend, she sent an insulated cat house for them but they won't go near it. It's only large enough for one kid so it's no wonder. Boots and No.5 stick together but they wouldn't fit in there. The kids are 8 months old and hubby wishes they'd find their way some place else. :) After Runt got sick and probably died (first litter and my avatar), I don't want to get too close to this new batch but the 2 I named come to our window panel by the door and will play with my hand. They look like they want to come in but chicken out.

All of our precious pets enjoy the indoors. There are plenty of blankets, beds and towels to keep everyone toasty and cozy.
Our pets are our family and they deserve nothing but the very best in everything. :cat: :cat: :cat:

Okay, animals were made to live outdoors. People who have outdoor animals are not @ss-holes. You are for judging them. Not every one can bring their animals inside. Cats and dogs and cows and horses and every other animal have lived outdoors for years. Mine are in the house but I have a house where I can have that happen. I have neighbors that have outdoor cats and dogs. They are not bad people for having animals outside. Sad when there are people who care more about a dog being outside that a person who is homeless.
-
I don't have any pets but if I did, they would be inside and only let out to handle their business. It's not fit for man or beast ---- really cold.
-
I have a dog and he hates being out in the cold. But even though i put his coat on and we go for a walk anyway
-
I can't imagine people leaving their animals out in the cold in this weather.... it's been getting in the 30s at night here & I can hear a dog barking at night where I live, probably because it's freezing & wants in. Sad. Last night I didn't hear it barking, so the owners must have gotten a clue.

Animals were not made to stay indoors. There is nothing wrong with them being outside. I remember you saying that cat had a place and it stayed under your house. I am sure it is warm and it will be fine. It can be colder that crap and my dog will go outside and lay in the snow. His choice.

lol. If it is ONLY in the 30s where you are then you are plenty warm. I doubt the barking dog is frozen and wants in. Every one does not have a house where they can bring animals inside. Some dogs bark all the time. No matter what the weather. And I use to have one that if your brought him in because it was storming or cold or what ever he would want right back out. So before you judge somebody for having a dog or cat outside get a clue - they are going to be fine. The birds don't freeze to death and they are a lot smaller and have a lot less protection than any dog or cat.
-
Hmm, this post has turned a little sour. To answer your question, no. Even "outdoor" pets should have some sort of protection when it gets below freezing. Somebody mentioned cows and horses - they are in stables and barns at night and generally have access if they want to go in during the day.
-
There are a few neighborhood cats running around me neighborhood. People take them in when it gets cold like it is now.
-
I do not have pets but it is too cold to leave them outside.
-
My dog enjoys it outside in the cold even when I call him over to come inside, He just gets way too hyper outside even after awhile I check on him his still running around from time to time and still refuse to come inside :confused1:
-
My door partly opened and one of my cats decided to go out but couldn't get back in until I got up,but she learned her lesson and ran back inside.

Of course it will turn sour. When you start a thread calling every one an A--hole that has outdoor pets then you are going to face some opposition. My pets are all inside but I have defended the ones being attacked. The house I use to live in I could not bring my dogs inside. I have also had dogs that refused to not use the bathroom in the house. I can't have a dog in the house peeing and pooping every where. I can afford to tear out walls and redo floors. The dog I have now doesn't use the bathroom inside. He never has.
I am the one who mentioned cows. You say well they have a barn. Some do. Some do not. I would bet 99.99% of the people who had outdoor pets have some sort of house or a covered porch or shelter for the animal. They are not just out defending for themselves.
There is a field I pass when I leave my house and the cows are just in a field. There is no barn. Just a field. Cows were also meant to stay outside. If you have 30 plus cows you cannot have a barn big enough for them to stay inside. They are COWS.
-
I hope there aren't too many pets out in the cold; I overheard a conversation at my kids' school day before yesterday about animals perishing because of the weather.
-
I never liked that. When I was younger, animals were always outside. I never had a dog house. I think it is mean
-
My parrot and my goldfish always stay in the house.
-
We had a dog once that from the time we first got him at 6 weeks old, never wanted to be in the house. It was too warm for him. He was Golden Retriever/Golden Lab but he had a double coat so thick that you couldn't find his skin and it was long hair. He looked more like a Pyrenees or even sheepdog type hair. Brushing helped a little but I would get enough fur off him to make sweaters. Too bad I didn't know anyone who made yarn from animal fur like they do now.
He hated being inside. In the middle of winter, he's lay in the snow. In the summer, i would took him to a groomer and she couldn't groom him with the thick fur, so I had him shaved. He was so happy that I started doing it once every year. He loved it. Of course, it would grow back by winter.
-
We have 2 dogs. One is young and loves it outside. The other is old and has trouble with the cold
-
NO !!!!! I live in Ohio and its really cold here. today it is actually 27 out,,, first time in over a week it has been above the teens. I have a cat that has tjo go out and do his "business" every once in awhile. but he don't like the cold so he comes back in. He has a little box but he sill has to go out,,,, I think he just wants to see if it is warm yet LOL
-
Nope. It has been super cold where I live, just 2 degrees the other day, so I pray everyone keeps their animals inside.
-
Nope, my pug just go out when he do his thing. He don't like to step in a cold or moist place.
-
I don't have pets, but their are neighborhood cats and dogs that takes over the area.
-
My cat will not go outside when it's cold.

People who leave animals outside are not always stupid. Kind of a biased blanket statement to make when you don't know all of the facts about their situation. I have cats outdoors. Multiple cats. They started out feral but we have fed them and they've slowly come around. There are so many that there is absolutely no way we could bring them all in. We trap, fix and release as often as we can but that runs into amounts of money that is borderline impossible to come up with at times. We also have a 13 yr old male cat that has NO tolerance for other animals and ends up hurting them if we can't separate them fast enough. The cats are not outside because we are stupid, it's because of the circumstances. What we do is this. We keep food out for them as much as we can. We have an electric water bowl so that they have water that isn't frozen. We have a huge dog house complete with blankets to keep them warm, we have a cat tree with things on it they can go into on our carport and we also have 3 different carpeted cubes and a homemade cat house out of a storage tote with blankets in it. These animals are going to be out there whether we do anything for them or not but we at least try to help them make it through the winter. It really is rude to insult someone when you say yourself you're feeding animals...but aren't bringing them in yourself.
-
Mine don't stay out there for long. They bark to get out and bark to get in.
-
Just checking back, since someone on here is afraid of being outed. I want to make sure you are all aware of this person because they must be doing something they shouldn't be doing. At first they said they didn't want to chat because they also didn't want to get outed in my space, by making way for another "officer" type person. Because once one enters, you can link them all back. You don't really cover up for them. Hmmm... Did you stand at the door and knock? aka Beg? Please, please, may I come in? No! Did I invite you in? No! Do I feel you have honest intentions? No! Stay out! My room will remain messy and my housing not highly desirable to prevent you and others from desiring to come in. I want you to go ewe gross to an extent. Stay out. Got it? You don't have permission to practice in my state. You are not authorized. You are not truly protecting, you are not with me. You are abusing your status. Plus, you need to eat your own cultures ethic foods and come into that. ;) Even sweepers can't come into your home the way you are doing this. You can't just pop into people's private space the way you are. I didn't leave a door or a window open for you. It's clearly way too cold outside now for that! Stay away! People that are Spanish and have Spanish names and don't eat Spanish food are weird. Super weird. Even in the last degree.
??? ??? "What'chu talkin' 'bout, Willis?" ??? ???

No way. I would never let my pets out in the cold. That is so cruel that some people do that. I bet they would not like to stay out in the cold.
-
Make sure if you let them out, you don't forget about them. I always use to yell at my neighbor for leaving her cats out too long. >:(
-
When we had an outdoor dog we put her in the garage in the winter. Part of it was heated.
-
I couldn't leave any pets outside even here where we think 50 degrees is freezing and it makes me sad to think about.
-
My horse is the only one outside, but I live in Florida so shes ok. She has a blanket and is very happy with it.
-
All my animals are indoor. My 2 cats have no desire to go outside. They have heat in the winter and AC in the summer. If they want to enjoy the snow they sit in the window and watch it.
My dog loves to go out and play outside but when the temperature drops he only stays out for so long and then returns to the comfort of his warm cozy house and his mom.
-
I don't agree with leaving pets out in the cold/heat. I did take my cat out on a walk yesterday because he loves the snow, but it was very short and I warmed up his paws as soon as we came inside. I know dogs can stay out longer and generally want to.
-
Would you want to stay out in the cold? They don't either,so bring them
-
You should never leave your pets out in the cold.
-
Never ever will I put my pets out in cold freezing weather! Pets to are no different to human family!

Please, try to ween her to wanting to become an indoor cat! I've 2 Spoiled Brat Cats named shadow (thief) who stole my heart into keeping him; & Splat (after Blood Splatter evidence) Forensic Files was on when she walked into my life. Both were from the streets & I made them become indoor cats! Sincerely, from a concern fellow cat owner.

My dogs have the choice to go in, or out, at their own discretion as we have a dog door. The coldest temperature, this winter, has been nine degrees, which is in a non-humid climate (Colorado). The breed, Golden Retrievers, are known for having heavier pelts, being uber brilliant, fun loving, and having a deep appreciation for cold and snow. I take them for a walk every morning and evening and they are absolutely crazy when it is cold and snowy. My eight year Golden likes to run at break neck speed, lower her shoulder and do a somersault in the snow-which is a trick that she has taught her seven year old brother. They will spend at least ten minutes chasing each other and rough-housing at open space near our home.We did have an ice storm last week so they were not able to get down our deck stairs but I walked them four times that day. Gotta love the cold!
-
I don't have any pets unfortunately. Have a great day!
