there are situations when you need extra time off from work.
it's nice to know that your boss is understanding about the particular circumstances.

I have to assume that would be nice, since I have not had a boss for over 50 years.

I don't know how long my boss would hold my position open for. Last fall one of the gals had knee surgery and it seemed like she was gone for 4 months or more.  The days she was gone all blended together.  I think there is a clause someone in our contracts saying that we can be "away" from our jobs for a year under certain circumstances.  Beyond that we'd have to go through the rehire process and start from the bottom again so to speak.  You are lucky to have such an understanding boss.  My boss has worked with me a time or two as well.  When we give respect, we get respect.

Amen to that! I was sick in the hospital about two years ago now, myself not employed at the time, but my partner was and hadn't been at the company but a couple months and her boss was extremely understanding, allowing her to take off a few weeks. I couldn't walk or do anything for myself, stayed in the hospital a total of 10 days, and recovery at home took a few weeks---so I definitely needed someone with me for a while.   :peace:

When I was a boss, I was very understanding of legitimate requests for time off.

That is good for you. Extra time off is always good, and not have to worry about it.
