unsubscribing
« on: March 01, 2015, 08:05:32 am »
do you spend a lot of time unsubscribing to unwanted email or spam?
I have a neighbor who spends every day with the delete button - deleting all his unwanted email.
it will keep coming if you don't unsubscribe.

I get a lot of e-mails that I have never subscribed to.  I delete them and they just keep coming.  I think sites you do subscribe to must sell your e-mail address to other companies.

Umm...the "unsubscribe" button is sometimes a trick. Spammers know that there are junk folders and if you click on the unsubscribe button, it shows that it's your actual email address and you're bound to get even more. It's best to just delete them and/or keep them in a junk folder and ignore them.

I agree with mrrangerrick. The sites are designed to put you on other lists when you unsubscribe. However, I still do it. You're derned if you do and derned if you don't.  :confused1:

I also fill out all the don't call forms and still get a thrillion telemarketer calls per day.  >:(

Another option if you use Gmail is to set a filter to automatically delete mail from a certain address.

I hate when I'm subscribed to mailing lists I never signed up for, but my spam filter works pretty well.

Honestly, about every month or so I unsubscribe to about 5-6 sites I am sick of and never subscribed to anyways (although sometimes you have to subscribe on some survey sites to receive credit for certain offers).  In the majority of cases, it works and they go away in awhile.  If you read the "fine print," often these sites will tell you it may take up to 1-2 weeks before the unsubscribe is successful.

Hotmail will let you block emails based off almost anything you want..I think Yahoo is individual addresses.  I never get spam on my gmail, so I wouldn't know with that one.

That is a very good point.  I used to unsubscribe, but now I find it easier to just delete.  The times that I have unsubscribed have turned out fine but there's always the one, as you described, who will really flood my inbox.  No thanks.

Unless it's a company I know and used to get emails from then I'll 'unsubscribe' if I don't want it any more. But most of the time, I'll mark it as Spam and goes into junk folder and then Ill delete it.
