How old and How did you figure out the Santa Claus was not what you were told?

I think I was first grade.  My older brother at that age wanted to go looking for presents around the house.  Boom = dream over.  Sad time in my life... haha

I don't ever remember believing in Santa Claus. My parents would always say Santa's going to bring you this or that, but it didn't make since to me that a fat man in a red suit would come down the chimney and bring toys.

I was 10 when I realized he wasn't real. Kids were always going on and on about how he wasn't real and I still believed. So, one day when my Mom and I went Christmas shopping, before we went into the store, I made her tell me if he was real or not. She eventually caved in and told me the truth and I ended up crying, lol. It was a very emotional time for me.

I found out because my mother took me to kmart and put a lite bright in layaway for me, only there was a tall standing mirror behind me in the basket where she had me turn around so I couldn't see what she was getting, well since I already knew what I was getting, when she wrote from santa on it, I knew their wasn't a santa claus, santa was mom.

I didnt find out until I was like 14 I was so sad too. My brother and sister told me and I was so sad. Christmas has never been the same since then

I'm confused.  I'm 26 and i still believe in Santa Claus.  The rest of you are just missing out.

I never believed there was a Santa but would always play along for my little cousins. It was fun while it lasted for them too haha

I was about 5 when I found out, and it was because i wanted to see santa so i stayed up and snuck out of my rooma nd caught my mom putting the presents under the tree. I was completely devistated but got over it when I opened my presents lol

I was about 7 or 8 when I figured it out logically. It just didn't make sense. I still love the magic of it all.

How old were you and how did you figure out that  Santa Claus was not exactly what you were told he was?

I was 8 when I figured out that presents left under the tree bore a significant resemblance to those in my parents room the night before.

I was about 6 years old. I figured it out because I found a baby doll in my Mom's closet and then got the same doll for Christmas from Santa...go figure

Actually, I never did believe in Santa. My parents taught me about Jesus and the real reason for Christmas instead of filling my head with a figment of someones imagination. They taught me that Santa Clause was a pretend man to help make Christmas more fun for some people. I personally love that that's what I was taught. In my opinion, when you teach you're children that Santa Clause is real then you're setting them up for disappointment. Why would you knowingly do that to your child? I'm just wondering.

I dont think it is setting a child up for dissappointment it is helping them use their imaginations and helping them know when they are young it is ok to believe in magic and fantasy so that they dont grow up to fast

Oh gosh.  Do you mean that there isn't really a santa claus?  I'm crushed!  I am 74 and really young at heart!

it was such a nice story and they just ruined it!!!
