Home Intruder Security...
« on: September 05, 2011, 06:35:45 pm »
what kind of security do you use at home, if any?
what are some good deterrents? have you ever been
broken into?

we're getting ready to move into a townhome
from a small apartment and because of the new
neighborhood, i've been researching wireless and
inexpensive security gadgets for my peace of mind...

I cant afford any security but I have dogs.  But they only help if the person breaking isn't someone you know.  My house as been broken into at least 5 time in the past two or so years.  But they didn't take any valuables they where looking for my perscriptions because I take some strong doses of paid medications.  I did get rid of one of my prescriptions it was Fentenyle patch they made me so sick and my house was getting broken into and those where getting stolen (by some one who knows me) so I stop it besides there where recalls on them anyway every other month thats why I was most likely getting sick.

If you do not like guns then buy a can of hornet/beehive killer and keep it by the door when you answer it and your bed at night. It shoots a stream of ugly stuff up to 20 feet. Aim for the eyes. If you can afford it take your dog to a K9 officer school so it OBEYS your commands. There are many other alternative security methods on the internet. Good Luck. :)

I have a dog, small and only good for making noise, however, I also have a .357 magnum revolver home security system loaded with 110 grain semi-jacketed hollow points.  I've never experienced a break-in anywhere I've lived.

A couple big dogs, usually does the trick.

we really want a dog! the new place actually allows
them too. maintenance and up-keep on a dog
can be costly though! from food to flea meds
to shots, etc...

the beehive spray is a good idea, unless someone
crept into the room and used it on me  :( lol.

We don't use anything any more.  We had two different security systems but that was years ago.  We still have the sign up in the yard and on the door to make people think we have one.  Luckily we live in a good and quiet area and we've never had any problems.  We've lived in two places that was broken into but that was many years ago in different houses.  We do have a gun in the house thought.

those are not good ideas anyway-but having guns, tasers & other weapons can help-also keep doors locked, windows locked can help also.certain locks can be broken but not a deadbolt door locked. :icon_rr:

OK, but if you're going to keep a revolver, pistol or long gun around, you'd better know how to use it effectively.  Don't expect to just buy the thing and load it, happily waiting for the intruder.  I had plenty of practice after more than 21 years in the Army.  I've also fired thousands of rounds in my personal firearms and learned to reload fired cartridges to save on the ammo expenses.
