What Anti-Virus Protection do you use and Why?

Last year my son had me purchase Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 as my anti-virus protection plan and he installed it on my laptop.  My desktop would not ever let me install it on it.

Are the free anti-virus protection services like AVIRA as good as the paid services?

I have Malewarebytes (supposed to be the best) Spybot (used to be good but some say not as good any more), Superantiapyware and now I primarily ise Avast.  I like Avast because it blocks malicious sites.  Recently I had a nasty infection with a rootkey.  Avast was the only one that was picking it up even though it wasn't getting rid of it.  I had to go through the Avast forum and luckily someone was able to help me get rid of it.

I use Linux for getting online, so I don't need protection.

  me and my whole family use Avast Anti-Virus Protection! we use it because it does a very good job and oh yea it's free

Avast and Malwarebytes.
Can't remember what the Mac has. It's currently down due to broken power cord till we buy a new one.

Oh and for the why.
Yes, because free. Also, works very well. So far, hasn't met with anything they couldn't remove or block before it even became an issue.
My sister does pay for I think Norton, but could be something else? Anyways, they seem happy enough with it, but they've also mentioned hitting viruses and their daughter's computer had to be reinstalled because of something.
So -shrug-

However, I do also use Firefox or Google Chrome and Adblocker and a site blocker (well, the site blocker was for our roommate, who borrowed our computers to look up *bleep*. Not cool. Didn't get a virus from it, but still - why tempt the alligator by putting your head in it's mouth? Also, rude).

I have never heard of Linux.

Avast seems to be the winner so far.

I use bullguard internet security its works great.  It tracks what I do and blocks maleware, spyware, and virus.

I have AVG right now. It's done pretty good job for me thus far. However, I may be switching to microsoft essential. I'm told it is the best thing going now.

I use Eset NOD32.  We have it at work and it seems to protect against most things, but any AV software is lacking.  New viruses won't be stopped by it, only the old ones they've programmed against.
