This might be different where you live but I know in Florida, if the father is not on the birth certificate, then he can't take the child anywhere. I'm kinda in the same boat. My daughter is 3 yrs old and her father was sent to prison when she was only 2 months old. He got out a year ago and has maybe seen her a handful of times. I got involved with another guy when my daughter was about 15 months old and he has been in her life ever since. Her biological father refuses to pay any child support unless I let him take her for the weekends. He doesn't want my now husband to be in her life and doesn't want her calling my husband daddy. But he has no problem with letting my husband support her financially. Right now her father is living from couch to couch and working under the table to he doesn't have to pay child support while going around and pretending to be father of the year all while my husband and I work hard every day to support my daughter and give her a life. Some people truly don't deserve to call themselves parents.

My advice to your daughter is that if the father is not on the birth certificate and she doesn't want anything to do with the guy. Move somewhere and don't tell him where you are. If he denies the child then he won't bother anyone. I'd get the child out of that area before he's old enough to understand that his father doesn't want him but loves a classmate as his own. Especially when the other children start to find out the truth. That's not fair to your grandson. But while he's living with you, I'd get custody of the child. That way his father can't just take him away. Find out what your custody laws are and how they work. If you can prove that he's abusive and has harmed your daughter or grandson, you van get a retraining order put in place. Taking him for child support could possibly result in him getting visitation and/or custody rights. But it all depends on the laws in the state in which you live. Good luck to you and your daughter. I hope everything works out. :)

His father was at the Awards Day at my grandson's school, which was Tuesday.  I was not expecting that, but something told me he would be there.  I was there because I had a phone call from his teacher, who informed me that my grandson was getting a lot of awards and I needed to be there.  As soon as his name was called, I heard his father say, "That's my boy!"  I looked around and saw him.  My grandson is a smart little boy; he received an All A Honor Roll diploma, medals for being the highest scorer in Reading, Math and Language Arts, a medal for Perfect Attendance, and the Principal's Award.  He has been promoted to the second grade and received other awards for being the only All A Honor Roll student in his classroom.  I am proud of him and his accomplishments.  I told my daughter and she is so proud of him.  She promised him a phone if he did well in school, so he is getting his phone.  Seeing his father nearly ruined my day and I wanted to know why he wants to claim him as his boy now, but you deny him the rest of the time.  I told my hubby what his father said and he said that was something; when his son is doing well, he wants to claim him as his son, but he does nothing for him. :female: :male: :male: :male:   :highfive: :rose:

Wendyr19- I know a guy who has worked for cash for years and refuses to get a job because if he does he will have to pay the years of back child support he owes.  Sad thing is the mother went to jail last year and to keep her from going into foster care he now has custody.  He still refuses to get a job and lives with his mommy.  If he gets a job he still will have to repay the state the money he owes.  And now he gets food stamps for her and probably a welfare check too.
