Why then do you look at the straw in your brother’s eye but do not notice the rafter in your own eye?+ 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Allow me to remove the straw from your eye,’ when look! a rafter is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the rafter from your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to remove the straw from your brother’s eye.

Sometimes illiteracy comes from imperfection or being poor.I also understand it might come from laziness too. With all thats going on in this world there are far more things and anxious moments to worry about.

Agreed! I have done it myself a few times too, though usually I catch the error.

If I think about it, I don't typo these, but if I've typed There and I go to type they're or their, I'm more likely to typo because I'll be rereading as I type to try and catch myself from doing it. It's like if you consciously think about it, you get suckered in by your brain to do it.

I hear you. I see these words mixed up all the time. Even intelligent people have a hard time with them. I think many times it is just a result of being in a hurry, and not paying attention. I know at work, (a firearms manufacturer), I sometimes write notes about "missing sight on a barrel" or something, but put "site" instead. I'm so used to web"sites", that I naturally write that instead of sight!

Guess some people didn't pay attention in high school. I swear it is the technology now a days..

This has nothing to do with technology.

Has nothing to do with being poor.  Basic grammar is not that hard to understand.  People thrive on acting stupid.  It seems to get them further for some reason.  Or gets them attention.  I am not "worried" about it.  But it irritates the hound out of me.  Especially when it is on news sites, in books, or basically any where. lol

Using you're and they're should be easy. People somehow forgot that they are contractions. Start breaking it apart by thinking "you are" and "they are" to see if the sentence makes sense in the first place.

Some people have a gift for spelling and they also have a great memory.  I believe that, as we age, we need BOTH the ability to spell and remember in order to hit the target.

I rarely use spell check so sometimes I use the wrong spelling, but I look at it this way.......

Life goes on.  Live.....and let live.
Have a great day!

It can get annoying. English has always been a strength of mine and I got good grades in it. I can see mistakes right away. But I admit I correct some of my own spelling at times because I proofread everything.

Idk.  My computer and idevices underline things in red with a squiggly line when it is spelled wrong.

Of course it will not catch grammar mistakes.

I think that may be where technology can be partially blamed... People are more used to having the spell-check catch their spelling mistakes that they get careless and don't proof for grammar mistakes as well; the problem with these grammar mistakes is that they are legit words, so the computer won't catch them as being mistakes.
