If the price is right, go for it. Take a tot bag and some plastic containers to take some food out. Do not let the waitress see you! Place the food on your plate and then when no one is around...do your work. You can save some money on your food bill this way.
Or you could go to the supermarket with a large tote bag and just take boxes of food off the shelf and walk out without paying for it.  Just do not let the employees see you.   ::) Same thing...

Buffet prices are per person, per ticket. The only problem is some buffets are "high priced", while others are low price. These restaurants know you go there because you are hungry. They do not mind if you take some food out with you.

It depends on the Buffet if I eat normally or indulge and overeat a bit.  Some buffets have awesome salad choices so by the time I take a sample of several unusual ones, I have plenty to eat.

I will also sample foods that I would never order as a menu choice if I  was at a regular restaurant.....ie: I would never order oysters on the half shell or calamari, etc.  But at buffet, I will take a small sample to try it out.

I NEVER eat enough for what we pay at buffets, that's why we hardly go. I might eat one plate with a few things on it and be full.

I haven't been to a buffet style restaurant in years.  When I do go I usually eat a little more than usual.  Although I am careful not to eat so much that my tummy hurts.  My son doesn't know when to stop eating...he eats so fast too.  Always has...he would moan and groan all the way home from the times we'd eat buffet style...that's part of why I stopped going.  It's so hard to teach kids healthy eating habits.  From one extreme to the other.

That is not cool.  I think that is dishonest.  Not to mention that it probably is a loss for the restaurant and a price increase for the other patrons.

Um... They would definitely mind if you took your own to-go boxes with you and loaded up on leftovers. Restaurant prices (as in any other business) are calculated based on their business model. For a buffet, the model is that the person can eat as much as they want / can while in the restaurant. If people start filling up their own to-go box, then food-costs will exceed expectations and lead to the business loosing money. In order to "correct" the higher food-costs then, they'd in turn raise their prices. The only food that a buffet may expect people to take out with them would be some small, hand-held item like a piece of fruit (eg an apple or banana) or an ice cream cone. Even then, some buffets may require that that one food item is started to be eaten in the restaurant (ie you have to take a bite out of the apple before you are allowed to take it with you) as that is seen as still being a part of that particular dining experience, and not for a person's own stock of food at home.

I try to avoid the buffet, because I always over eat. One time I had five desserts. Granted, I just had a couple bites of some of them, but then I got disturbed about the waste. Overeating aside, the waste at buffets is unacceptable.

When I was younger, I would gobble up until I was full and then some.  Now? I don't think I can.

Last time I was at a buffet, there was a surcharge if you left food on your plate because you could not finish and they would do that by WEIGHT.  I think they would do the same thing if you took your take out plates there!

About the only buffet we go to anymore, is an Indian Casino where on certain nights they have all you can eat Dungeness Crab. The good part is, it takes so long to pick out the meat and mix it with red sauce in a bowl (crab coctail) that it slows you down.

I tend to overeat the few times I do go to a buffet because you pay one price and with drinks it can be expensive but again that is what they are there for.
