Sometimes I think a lot of you all hear what you want to hear, do you all want a President who pays NO taxes, and make you pay taxes...ha that real smart.  No way will I vote for someone who thinks it smart he got away without paying any taxes and he is a millionaire and the rest of us or middle class or lower, now you tell me who is smarter

Absolutely. I hope he didn't pay any taxes. The tax code is designed to modify ones actions by incentivizing the actions the government wants in the form of a tax break. That's why there are credits for going to college, making energy efficient improvements to your home, health insurance, investing in your retirement, etc. Theres plenty out there for businesses as well. These are things the government wants you to do.

I can't imagine picking a candidate based on the amount taxes they paid.

Yes, I agree. The way it is now, the more we earn, the higher percentage they take, so we can never get ahead. With a straight percentage for everyone, with no loophole, there would actually be an incentive to work harder and earn more money. And everyone, rich and poor, would be paying their fair share.
BTW, one of the comments above mentioned that Hillary admitted to wanting to raise the taxes on the middle class. I didn't realize that she actually told the truth for once in her life? (twice actually, because she also admits she wants to take our guns, which is another true statement).

I would vote for them if they put the taxes to good use.

It's a problem with the people making the least money pay the most in taxes and millionaires and billionaires often don't pay anything.

That's not even remotely true. The top 1% pays nearly half of all taxes.

That's true only in theory. There are plenty of loopholes to avoid payment when you reach a certain bracket or they simply choose not to pay like certain candidates.

The notion of "loopholes" only exists it in fairy tale land. Most credits/deductions phase out in the middle/lower tax brackets and the "rich" don't get to take advantage of them. They are also subject to additional taxes such as the net investment tax, AMT, and an additional medicare tax.

I sometime think that not fair too.  But look at the other way.  They take our taxes and pay for something else in need, so I don't even know what to do.

I guess individuals setting up multiple charities and corporations to filter money through is all part of the fairy tale. All the donations for tax write offs is just part of it too I guess. The wealthier are suppose to be paying additional taxes but that doesn't always happen.

I don't mind taxes being raised cuz that's how our economy works, the way those taxes are being use is what counts like being taxed on how much your income status is, not taxing the middle class & poor while the gushing, throw up rich get the tax breaks!

You realize corporations pay taxes, right? The corporation pays 35% in tax and then the shareholder pays an additional 23.8% (20% DIV Rate + 3.8% NIT rate) when it is "filtered" as dividends. That's an effective rate of 50.47%. That's not a loophole. The whole argument that the rich use corporations to avoid taxes is one of the biggest myths out there.

As for donations, making a $1,000 donation to save $396 isn’t a loophole. It’s a net loss of $604.

None of those things allow one to avoid paying tax.
