That has never happened to me.  I automatically know to put the cart where others are stored and when making a purchase, someone else bags the items.

I use self check out only when I have a few items.  To me this is like a express lane and I really don't like the hassle of large orders being checked out in something that is suppose to be convenient for others.  As far as emptying my hand basket I have always done this myself unless the cashier tells me not worry about emptying it.

There is a store in my area called Publix and they are very customer service oriented but I know what you mean.  I am disabled so I shop there I have to call them to bring out an electric cart, they take my stuff to the car and they will even send someone around the store with you to get high items hard to reach.  Also they are very clean.  The Wal-mart in our town is disgusting and you sure aren't going to get any help.

Oh I forgot to mention the one time recently I did go to Wal-mart there was only one register with a cashier and it was the one that sells cigarettes.  All others self-serve.  If I want something from wal-mart I shop online.

If I only have a few items, I will check myself out if self-checkouts are available.
Have a wonderful day!

I don't see the problem. They have the SAME amount of cashiers. It is just a couple of the cashiers are watching multiple registers.  And I have never saw those signs in our stores.  The cashier watching 5 registers is still working. You still have a couple who ring up stuff in the middle of the store - so I don't see what the problem is.

I tend to agree. It is very rare these days that our grocery store visits are large fill up the buggy and pay $150+ trips. We are usually less than 20 items and I very rarely use the cashier line anymore - I seek out the self checkout line, unless I have too many items.

A woman who used to work with me absolutely refused to use self checkout because she believed it was putting someone else out of work and she was not shy about scolding me for my choice to use them. I just let her vent and move on.

The only beef I have is when the cashier who is supposed to be watching those six self checkout registers is instead chatting with a co-worker or too pre-occupied with a cell phone when there is a problem with someone using the self scan.

I like checking myself out because I'm a bit antisocial. Lol. Anything's better than making small talk with the 18 year old cashier who wants to know whether my tv dinner tastes good.

I get sick of lazy cashiers personally. When I was a cashier, I'd let people just put their cart on my register and I'd empty it out myself. I was being paid $10 an hour, but for God's sake, how lazy can you get?

Everything is getting more expensive. Whether it is paying the same price for a bag with less potato chips or cookies or you want faster internet service-it will cost you more. I prefer going to the self check lanes because it is faster at the times that I go which is usually between six to eight in the morning. The cashiers are generally assigned with several other duties at that time of the morning and I can ring up all of my items before the dual tasking cashier can get back to, and unlock, their register. I do not mind unpacking my cart or bagging my own groceries, kind of goes with my work ethic and I have preferences for how my bags are filled-light, fragile stuff on top and heavy stuff on the bottom. I kind of crack up at the people that hop into the express lanes with a full basket, plop out sixty items in lanes that are clearly marked fifteen items or less.

I always check myself out.  My $ store doesn't do any of that.  They take stuff out of the basket and keep it at the register.

    It is worse than that!
Have you notice taxes collected by the Government for
services never received? Road improvements, fire and
public safety projects and more...never completed.
    Should we demand a refund?
