I know understand why people make their guest and family members remove their shoes before coming into their home. When you think about it,  if you have carpet, every germ, gum, or anything nasty is captured on the bottom of your shoes and when you walk around, you are spreading the germs. I've never done this but have seen others do it and have decided after getting new carpet that this is necessary for a sanitary home. What do you think? I want to hear your thoughts. :)

Your comment makes NO sense.  I KNOW UNDERDSTAND???

First off, there are germs every where.  On people's feet and socks as well.  If I went to visit somebody and they told me to take my shoes off when I entered their home I would likely decline to enter and leave.

Well, then you would have to leave my home.  I was raised that taking shoes off when you enter your home or someone else's is just plain good manners and a necessity to keeping a clean home.  The only time I don't take my shoes off at another person's home is when I see no one does and the carpeting looks it.  And believe me, I know someone who never takes their shoes off and lets everyone run through their home with shoes (and they have lots of company) and their 3 year old carpeting looks like its been in a garage or something.  And it's been cleaned professionally twice already! Ugh!!!!!!!!!
By the way, an acquaintance came to my house once and had evidently been walking around barefoot.  I handed her a pair of socks and told her she was welcome to come in but had to put on the clean socks first. If I want to lie on my living room carpet in my pjs and stretch my back or whatever, I'm not going to worry about the "nasty' from outside!

Well we don't have many guests and the few we do know we take our shoes off by the front door for whatever good it does.  We have light cream carpet (builder's choice not ours) and it still looks like it has stains on it no matter what we do.  We only eat at the table and we take our shoes off in front on the tile.  Oh well.

I don't ask guest to remove their shoes but my entire family does it no matter who house they go.  My mom always insisted that we remove our shoes so I guess we taught our kids to do the same thing

No.  I don't want their smelly, stinky, sweaty, dirty feet on my floor or carpet.

i never knew anyone who did that until my son moved in with his girlfriend. She didn't make us remove our shoes but it's the first thing my son does now. When I asked her how she made him do it, she just smiled and said he's not allowed in the house unless he takes them off.

I tried for years to get the guys in the family to take off their shoes because we have no sidewalk or macadam driveway. Pure mud when rains. I gave up and used to have carpet samples down on the porch, a rubber doormat, and 2 industrial carpet mats right inside the door that practically covers 4x5 feet of the slate foyer. it helped a little.

We never had 'new" carpet so no big deal anyway and we always had either a dog or a cat, so it wouldn't have made any difference. We aren't germaphobes and now it's only the 2 of us, so why change now?

I've never really asked anyone to do this but when I go to someone's house, I usually always remove mine right away just to be polite.

I do now, since I read a article that said shoe soles are dirtier than a toilet seats and that bacteria lives on shoes longer than almost anywhere else.  :o

I had a friend many moons ago  who was a neat freak,  and not only take them off  but leave your shoes or boots in the garage , and in Minnesota in the winter , -20  and she made you put them on out there too on a cold bench.  And she never could figure why no one came to her house parties.  She was rude and would ask people to leave if they made any sort of mess like leaving a plate sit for  15 seconds .

I think it is just understood in today's manners. I wear Crocs so it's simple and quick and notice most people who come over to my house do it without being asked.

:bunny:  :cat:  :dog: I don't make them remove their shoes, but since I don't wear mine walking around my home, they just do the same. I think it helps to save the carpet, plus I spend a lot of time without shoes on while being at home.  :bunny:  :cat:  :dog:
