Never be picky about a job it could lead to bigger and better things. At least your getting paid regardless unless you quit work like my friends aunt did and had no back up plan. She lost her house her car and a lot of other stuff because she was too picky about what type of job she thought she should have. Its better to have something then nothing

It isn't always being picky.  I can't say much in this area because there have been jobs I wouldn't even consider.  If I can survive any other way I am not going to work for $7.25 at McDonald's. Besides the fact that I am way over qualified to work at McDonald's so they would not hire me anyway. lol

I don't know what all McDonald's pay when it comes to different states and areas but the one nearest me is advertising a starting wage of $10.50 right now.  It is a very busy one and was redesigned last year.  I am also noticing a number of what I would consider "entry level" jobs with some of them advertising $10.00 and better!

It depends on where you live.  Our McDonald's pays starting out $8 an hour ( I think ) and you get about 10 hours a week.  So that is $80 a week minus taxes.  So your take home pay is about $65 a week.  I can make that doing surveys.

One of the local motels has been begging for help all summer for cleaning rooms. Starting pay is $7.25 an hour with a schedule of 10-12 hours a week.  YOU CANNOT survive on that.  And you can't work 4 jobs because no one wants to work around another schedule.  They want you available any time they want to schedule you.

I also don't know where you live but if all jobs start at $10 or more an hour I am going to assume the cost of living is a lot more.  I know in the Northern states entry level min wage jobs start at $10 or more.  But look how much it costs to live there.  I had family living on Long Island for a while and I think she was paying around $2500 a month for a small apartment.

What's funny is that I don't live in an area with a high cost of living.  Interestingly enough, I have noticed that the price of McDonald's items in general have crept up around here.

You're doing the right thing doing jobs that isn't your dream jobs. Me, I just try to live off my husband's pension & budget the monies so I can survive each month without going into welfare or government assistance. Don't give up & good Luck!

You can't just go "in to welfare".  You have to qualify.  If you do not have dependent children and do not have disability you aren't going to get much help.  And even if you did they will take off for the check you get for his pension.

Now if you are on disability or have kids you can live pretty good on welfare.

I am disabled but never tried to get any type of "welfare" except help with food. After fighting for SNAP for 4 months (they always turned my papers back to me for some reason or another), I finally qualified.....for  a whole $15 a month. What does that buy? Not much. So I never used the card. Heck, that would only buy 5 lb. of ground beef.  Not enough to sustain 2 people for a month. We sold stuff to get by and still do. I sold most of my doll collection. Hubby sold his backhoe that he worked to long and hard to buy back when he was construction. I need to buy a digital camera to take photos of the rest of my medical and genealogy books. I hate to do it but I think I'll have to sell my All American canner since he no longer gardens and I can't.

I tried for 8 long years to find a job after my disability with no luck so I just gave up this year. All I have to make money now is FC and one other site. Two sites shut down this year so...

I've had plenty of survival jobs in the past.  I recently went through a phase where I was donating plasma.  I usually focus on the positive aspects so it's not all about money; even though, I like the fact that I benefit financially.  I also like the idea that maybe someone will benefit from what I have to offer.
Have a great day!

So does the lady above have disability income? If not, you better get your application in before the SSA shuts down/closes up. At some point, I think they might not take any more applications. I don't know anything about it, but they need to do it I think because they are kind of wasting time doing so many foolish things and need some other changes and to change them I think they said that is what they would do, pass a new legislation or something to change hands. I don't think people with disability should only qualify for $15 a month in food stamp benefits. But, maybe you own your own house/home or something.

It's a legitimate job and pays the bill so hang in there but also pursue your passion and dreams.  Continue to get the word out that you're available and maybe something will come of it.
