Never heard of it.  All this naming days is stupid anyway.  I have started really looking at charities lately.  Check online and see how rich the CEO of said charity is before you donate to it. I have learned some things lately that have really changed what I give money too.  To avoid a fight I am not going to post any thing specific on here. Just research before you donate to any cause.

I almost always check out the stats on certain chariites as there are few sites which will break down how much actually goes to the cause.  However, I also give a little money locally and to long-standing charities where I feel the cause is very important, such as the Alzheimer's Association.

That is great.  But even that I would check out how rich the people running it are.  St Jude is a good one because all of the money goes to pay for expenses of the kids being treated.  There was one a few years ago locally, the guy starts a charity, hires people thru a temporary service to call and solicit $10 donations for the Make a Wish Foundation.  They even sent people out to collect the $10.  Here is how that broke down - the person who made the call was suppose to get I think $2.50, the person who picked up the money got $3, and the owner got $4. So only 50 cents was going to the Make a Wish Foundation.  BUT, the kicker was when he got the money for the first week he skipped down.  Did not even pay the temp agency.  They never found him.  I am actually surprised the temp agency did not do more to make sure he was a legit business.

I didn't know that there was just a day for giving, but I try and do that anyway.

It seems each day of all of the months have a meaning.  Who started that and why?

This is true; I put donating on my monthly achievement list because I feel so honored to be able to do so.

I never knew that there was a Day like this either. Thanks for letting us know about it. It is always comforting to Donate to those in need. Especially around the Holidays.

Especially when it comes to giving to those who have already done something significant to us, like a vet or family of a veteran.

I have never heard of this.... I try and do good deeds all the time; without it being a special day on the calendar.... if everyone did this every day, it would be a much better world.

It seems like everyday anymore, it is a holiday of some sorts. I think the whole thing is getting pretty overwhelming if you ask me.

I don't think it means giving to your family.  I think it means donating to some organization.  You have a lot of people with their hand out this time of year.  And most of the ones asking for money have more than the people who give.  People who are really in need would not ask for help.  I know I wouldn't.

Add me to the list of people who never heard of it before this year. We do monthly collections at my church that I help facilitate and participate in and I usually get myself a stack of one dollar bills around Thanksgiving that I use specifically for the Salvation Army red kettles over the next month (I usually carry no cash on me anywhere).

I think it is great to remind people to give if they are able, but I'm not sure if "Giving Tuesday" is the right way to go about it. If it turns into a vehicle to shame people into giving then I am 100% opposed to it.

Most people do not know this but the bell ringers with the Salvation Army are paid.  It was years ago but when I was younger I was working with a temp agency and they offered me a position ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. I don't remember the pay but it was the min wage at the time.  The pay came out of the donations.  Ever since finding that out I have never put money in that pot.

And before somebody come unhinged yeah some may volunteer but most of them are paid.  I do agree with trying to shame people in to giving.  It doesn't work with me.  Like every where you shop right now the cashier is asking you to donate to some cause.  I have no problem saying "not today".  Or just No.  I don't owe an explanation.  And most times the cashier doesn't care.  I am not rude to them.  They are doing a job.  If you want to get mad at someone get mad at the CEO that forces the question.
