Title: Stress Relief Tip
Post by: andzigallery on November 26, 2010, 04:02:30 am
This tip was sent to me via e-mail by Margaret Ann (Reiki Master)

If you are worried about something you cannot control, allow
yourself 10 min each day to worry at it - then put it out of your
mind.

I do this method where I tighten or flex muscles as hard as I can for a few seconds, then I slowly release it. So say I were sitting down, I'd clench my fists hard, then slowly loosen them. It feels relaxing to me, strangely. Haha.
I also like listening to people whisper softly, and aromatherapy. There are so many things you can do to relieve stress ^^

I also find that playing games like Farmville and Cafe World to be very therapeutic.  I am also surprised by the number of people who have friended me to be my neighbor on these games.  I'm even surprised by of all my relatives, co-workers, former  elementary school and high school classmates, family friends, college friends, and anyone else I know that plays these games.

The repetitive motions of knitting or crocheting is also a stress reliever and it can also put you in a meditative states.  I do believe that I posted information about the benefits of knitting some time ago.

For me I just take very deep breaths and I put on some scented candles that I really love. We all tend to be shallow breathers, when you do finally take a deep breath it feels so relaxing that your whole body feels it. Aromatherapy really works for me as well that's why I use the scented candles. They do wonders and trust me within 5 to 10 minutes you'll start to feel better.

@cubarican
I also like to use scented candles and aromatherapy oils as stress reliever.  I'm in the process of becoming Reiki Level 1 certified and I am incorporating the use of essential oils in my sessions.  Also, I'm a big fan of watching waterfalls and water fountains as I find this to be a big reliever of stress.

A YouTube video "Experience Peace" is a wonderful video to watch to help relieve stress.  As the title suggest, it is a "Waterfall Meditating Experience"

Here is also another good tip from Margaret Ann:

AN OLD BUT GOOD TIP - MAKE A LIST and as you complete each chore
cross it off the list, very satisfactory - you do not need to do
them all in one day:-)

I hope this is good a tip especially for vangabhargavi and hotychick!

Also think mindfulness!!!  Mindfulness is being totally focus on one activity at that moment and I would like to use the act of doing dishes as an example.  Next time you do dishes, try this!  Really watch as you rinse-off the dishes with water, as you clean the dishes with soap, really pay attention to the suds, getting remaining foodstuff of the dishes, watching how you scrub the food of the dishes, and then finally rinsing a second time.  It is truly an interesting experience and you maybe amazed at how much quicker you finish this chore.

I find that sitting in complete silence sipping either on wine, or your beverage of choice, and just taking a few deep breaths in and out help A LOT I'm also a stay at home mom.. and I know how stressful life can get.. Also, if you soak in a hot tub with just candles, the dim light and the heat from the bath makes for much needed comfort lol.

Oooh!  That sounds like such a good idea!  I wish just thought about something, my sister-in-law and a few of our girl friends was thinking about doing our own spa day with some homemade beauty ingredients!  This should be fun!!!!  This quote just made me think of that.  A spa day with just us moms--sounds like a plan!!!

One thing that was taught to help my anxiety is deep breathing. It sounds like something that wouldn't work, but if you do it right, after a couple deep breaths your body starts to relax itself. Try it :D

Stressing about something won't get you anywhere. It only decreases happiness and shortens your life.

With work, driving in traffic, screaming kids and trying to squeeze all our errands into 24 hours it is no wonder we get so stressed out. At the end of my busy and stressful day I unwind and destress by listening to soft easy listenng music and close my eyes. Some days I can do it for 5 minutes and some days 15. A warm bath in some lavender oil helps too. Sometimes a stiff drink at the end of a very stressful day is in order.

Here's some more stress relief tips from Margaret Ann.  I just like passing them on with the hope some of us will find them useful:

If at all possible DELEGATE. Partner, Kids, or even a friend to help
with yard/garden work. ask them to take responsibility for one job
a week that you do now.
Putting rubbish/garbage out, keeping main room vacuumed. Even small
children can take a turn with a small job, and they usually enjoy
the responsibility.

Tiny Tiny steps is the rule.  If you live on your own, think about
how often a chore needs doing. You really don't need to vacuum the
whole house each time.

Just find small things to cut down on - it all adds up to you
having more time to do what you enjoy. And that means LESS STRESS!

i too find farmville therapeutic. my husband thinks its weird that i am so into it but he doesn't seem to realize that it is an awesome little escape for me. i can plan everything to my liking, everything is neat and in order, and it allows me to escape from yelling kids, dirty dishes, and all my other daily stressors

Get a good massage

And I'll take that too and especially a deep tissue massage!  In fact, having a massage should be a requirement!  Research has shown that massages are very beneficial to many illnesses!
