Stress Relief Tip
« on: November 26, 2010, 04:02:30 am »
This tip was sent to me via e-mail by Margaret Ann (Reiki Master)

If you are worried about something you cannot control, allow
yourself 10 min each day to worry at it - then put it out of your
mind.

I do this method where I tighten or flex muscles as hard as I can for a few seconds, then I slowly release it. So say I were sitting down, I'd clench my fists hard, then slowly loosen them. It feels relaxing to me, strangely. Haha.
I also like listening to people whisper softly, and aromatherapy. There are so many things you can do to relieve stress ^^

I always either play video games, watch tv, or generally just do whatever I want...that seems to help :)

I also find that playing games like Farmville and Cafe World to be very therapeutic.  I am also surprised by the number of people who have friended me to be my neighbor on these games.  I'm even surprised by of all my relatives, co-workers, former  elementary school and high school classmates, family friends, college friends, and anyone else I know that plays these games.

The repetitive motions of knitting or crocheting is also a stress reliever and it can also put you in a meditative states.  I do believe that I posted information about the benefits of knitting some time ago.

For me I just take very deep breaths and I put on some scented candles that I really love. We all tend to be shallow breathers, when you do finally take a deep breath it feels so relaxing that your whole body feels it. Aromatherapy really works for me as well that's why I use the scented candles. They do wonders and trust me within 5 to 10 minutes you'll start to feel better.

@cubarican
I also like to use scented candles and aromatherapy oils as stress reliever.  I'm in the process of becoming Reiki Level 1 certified and I am incorporating the use of essential oils in my sessions.  Also, I'm a big fan of watching waterfalls and water fountains as I find this to be a big reliever of stress.

A YouTube video "Experience Peace" is a wonderful video to watch to help relieve stress.  As the title suggest, it is a "Waterfall Meditating Experience"

Here is also another good tip from Margaret Ann:

AN OLD BUT GOOD TIP - MAKE A LIST and as you complete each chore
cross it off the list, very satisfactory - you do not need to do
them all in one day:-)

I hope this is good a tip especially for vangabhargavi and hotychick!

Also think mindfulness!!!  Mindfulness is being totally focus on one activity at that moment and I would like to use the act of doing dishes as an example.  Next time you do dishes, try this!  Really watch as you rinse-off the dishes with water, as you clean the dishes with soap, really pay attention to the suds, getting remaining foodstuff of the dishes, watching how you scrub the food of the dishes, and then finally rinsing a second time.  It is truly an interesting experience and you maybe amazed at how much quicker you finish this chore.
