Lord of the Rings. A long series of books and maybe a bit dry for some tastes, but a great fantasy series in my opinion!
-
I love the Harry Potter books, but I also enjoy nonfiction such as Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond and 1491 (can't remember author, but it was a terrific book).
-
i'm kind a into twilight these days...
-
I have read both of those book LOTH series and TO kill a moking bird any more intresting......
-
If you like Harry Potter, you have absolutely got to read The Lord of the Rings. It is, hands down, my all-time favorite book (or series of books.) The world in it is deep and rich, with a full history to boot. Phenomenal stuff.
Try tackling The Silmarillion, also by Tolkien, if you like LOTR.
-
I don't know, Jay! I loved all of the Harry Potter books but I absolutely loathed reading the LOTR series. Or should I say "trying to read," lol. The writing styles are a million miles apart!

I found a hard bound copy of The Lord Of The Rings Return Of The King. I found out later how much they go for on Amazon and was shocked. I paid 25 cents and the used copy I found on Amazon was over $200. The copy I have Is still In good condition too.

Eh, I guess I can't blame you- Tolkien's writing can be a bit dry at times ;)

my fave book series are from libba bray, sarah dessen, and of course harry potter.
-
all the halo books are good.
-
George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" is a good fantasy series. Rather gritty. He's working on book 5 now.
-
There is b ooks about HAlo ??? ??? Now they have gone too far :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :angry7: :angry7: :angry7:

I don`t read very much and when i do it has to be a true story, for me to read it.
-
Twilight is great, but nothing like Harry Potter...its all about teenage girl angst and romance, and quite corny at parts.

;D

If you love fantasy, I would seriously consider reading the Inheritance (Eragon) books, they're really good. and the cool thing is that the author wrote the first on when he was 15 :o
And for mysteries, I personally like the "Cat who" series, by Lillian Jackson Braun. They're not openly famous, but they ARE pretty popular, and they're good books. And there's like 25 of them and new ones keep being released so you NEVER have to stop reading them :thumbsup:all the halo books are good.
Yeah, they are good. I own the first three (The Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike) And I just finished reading "Contact Harvest", and ordered "Ghosts of Onyx" from the library. You can call me a Halo freak....but it's a bit obvious
-
I love the Twilight series. A Certain Slant Of Light is really good too.anyone read either of them?
-
I love the Twilight Series, very new take on vampire mythos :)
Some other great series I would highly recommend:
- The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud
- the Women of Genesis series by Orson Scott Card - he writes books based on the lives of women in the Old Testament, so far writing about Sarah (wife of Abraham), Rebekkah (wife of Isaac), and Leah & Rachel (wives of Jacob) - really really exceptional books for anyone interested in biblical stuff or just ancient-historical fiction.
- Enchantment by Orson Scott Card - I know, it's starting to look like he's my favorite author but he's really not... but this is one of my favorite books ever - it's a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story, with some other fairy tale and historical-fiction type stuff mixed in too
- I also recently started reading stuff by Dean Koontz: Life Expectancy, which was awesome; and Fear Nothing, also very good, tho I haven't yet read the rest of that series (2 or 3 books, I think?)
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, which is apparently the first in a series, tho I don't know that the next book is out yet, but this one was really, really good
And for anyone having trouble with LotR - I cannot read those without falling asleep, but I found that if I listened to an audio version, it was very enjoyable. As far as I know, there's only one unabridged audio version of the books - anything else is like a cliffnotes version instead of someone reading the actual text. But if you can find the unabridged one, the guy who reads it is really incredible. He does voices and sings all the songs and everything. Really just immerses you in the Tolkien world :)
Gah, long post, sorry! :P

What's your favorite, Snake? I'd have to go with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader- lots of interesting adventures.

I'd have to stick with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, just because it's a classic, but I'm really a big fan of most of C.S. Lewis' work. :)

i honestly think twilight tops harry potter for me. which is pretty hard to do ;p tolkien's stuff is alright.. not quite MY style though. i love anything and everything by dean koontz.. it's pretty rare that he disappoints me  i would definitely recommend the christopher snow books, they're my favorites ("fear nothing" and "seize the night") or the odd thomas series. oh! and i've been reading the dexter books by jeff lindsay.. love them!
-
I haven't read Harry Potter, but I like the movies...I would say Lord of the Rings would probably be similar to Harry Potter...but if you are looking for a really good series that is super addicting...try the Twilight series...I was hooked, now I am re-reading them because I went through them way to fast the first time...I was just so excited to see what happened next!!!
-
The halo series are great books.
-
I read most of the Harry Potter books but also have so many other favorite authors.
-
Have you read any of the older science fiction/fantasy books (I know there's a difference between the two genres but they share a connection like horror and mystery)? It's interesting to read H.G. Wells' and Jules Verne's books now not just because they are good books, but because it's fascinating (and many times comical) to see science and fantasy from the perspective of 19th century authors.
Also because these books are "classic" one can read them for free online.
-
Lord of the Rings is an awesome book series. The movies are good too but I think the books are better.

Agreed. I wonder how The Hobbit movie's going to turn out.
-
Ok series that everyone should read
1)Lord of the Rings
2)Chronicles of Narnia
3)Harry Potter
4)Christopher Paolini (Eragon series)

Yeah, I've always liked them, too. But the problem with series books is that you keep having to reread the series if you go too long without reading ANY of them. In fact, I need to reread them again. ;D
-
The books that I am going to recommend don't fit into your category, but they are really great reads. The fever series by Karen Marie Moning and the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.
