Title: Please pray for my mom!
Post by: lgemini on October 22, 2012, 06:02:35 am
My mother had to go to the hospital yesterday.  She was in church and she started to shake.   The hospital ran tests and said maybe her medications is too strong for her or not strong enough.  My mother had a triple bypass last year and at the same time they removed a large cancerous mass from her chest.( she did had treatment for the cancer)   On top of this she has high blood pressure and diabetes.  She wants to be independent to live alone.   Please pray for my mom, thanks

The God lord does not put things on you that he know you can't handle. Your family will make it through this. Your mother is strong to make it this far and she will continue to push through this as well. God will cover you and yours in these trying times.

Hello Igemini,

May the God of all comfort bring you peace  :angel12: and your mom healing.  :angel11:
Each time I have been in the hospital I felt I had an Angel  :angel11: on my shoulder, especially when either the pain was unbearable or the naseau would be so intense that I would pray and I would ask for an Angel, one that could ease my troubles.  :angel12:  So, I have asked for the sweet little Angel to come to you and your mom and maybe she can comfort the both of you.  :angel12:

         Sincerely, RosieQ

Don't mean to be the bitter one~but it is weird that when someone asks to pray for their mother, everyone responds nicely and prays for her. Once I started a thread for people to pray for the city of Joplin (in which I live) that was destructed from an EF5 tornado. 161 people died, some were people I knew and friends......everyone told me that praying would not help.....why?
My mom has MS (Multiple Sclerosis)...does anyone pray for her? Do I dare ask? People say they will pray. but do they really? I have a hard time believing that!!  :angry7:
No, I am not a bitter person, just expressing my feelings and opinions when I think something isn't fair to me.

There's nothing inherently "bitter" about the observation that "praying", (a 'magical intercessory ritual'), has no evidence of "helping" anything other than encouraging a false sense of 'comfort'.  Some people feel they need such self-delusions while otehrs do not.

I hope your mother is ok.  I know what you are going through right now.  My mother just had a stoke on Saturday.  Thank goodness she was released today because it was a mini stroke and is back to normal.  Make sure your mother eats a healthy diet and gets some exercise as much as she can tolerate. We really have to be so careful in taking care of ourselves to avoid problems in the future.  May she have a speedy recovery.

It looks like it might not be as bad as you think. Just confide in the Lord and he'll help! There are times when I just all of a sudden start to shiver and I'm find. You know that we are women and our hormons goes waky, so it might be that too. The good think is that she went to the doctor, but remember the Lord is the doctor of all doctors and that good that you ask for the prayer. The Lord like that.  :angel11:

No, that's a random attribution to a supernatural entity which has no evidence of existing and is insulting to doctors and medical staff who do have evidence of existing and helping.  The sheer gall of blind religious faith would be astounding were it not so prevalent.

Continue to be there for her. GOD will not put more on you than you can bare. I pray for your strength to help your mom through this and i pray for your mom's healing. GOD ALMIGHTY is healer. Keep the faith and don't give up! :angel11:

You aren't the bitter one - you are definitely expressing your feelings and opinions.  I remember when that happened in Joplin and how extremely worried and devastated you were.  In one thread (not the same thread as you are speaking of) I and many others in there were very concerned for you, your family, and your friends.  We (though a few) did pray for you and for them, for help, for missing people to be found, for comfort to make it through the upset, and more.  For those who said what they did in the other thread about praying would not help, while expressing either their opinion or based on their experience with something, left a bad taste in your mouth.  I'm really sorry you had to deal with that.

Yes, I will pray for your mom.  MS can be cruel to a person's body and outlook on life, and they need comfort, understanding, and acceptance.  I will pray for you, as well, because you also need comfort, support, and encouragement, through your love and concern towards her.  Please keep me posted about her.

I hope you and your family are doing well - your little one has grown a lot, I'm sure!  It's wonderful to see you, even if under different circumstances.  {{{Hugs}}} to you!

You're welcome and I'm glad it was of some comfort.  Remember too that just because such 'magical intercessory rituals' such as "prayer" have no discernable effect beyond such comfort-placebo ones, that doesn't mean other, more pragmatic avenues cannot be pursued.  They can be, once less/no time is wasted on superstitious beliefs.

Workmama..im a bit confused here.

First off i am sorry for the trouble in your life. For any of us its hard to escape hardships in this world.

What i dont understand is you complain of those NOT praying for you and then you agree with Falcon9 who has no use for a loving creator. So if you agree with Falcon why do you even worry about if any are praying for you?You have seen him on this forum with his feelings towards God etc...do you think a Creator would answer any of your prayers if your heart was like his?

Anyway maybe your heart is just confused and you needed some guidance.I couldnt help point it out to you.

 Hello,  :angel11:

A miracle... you decide  ;)  February 2, 2009 when my husband woke-up I had a temperature of 103 and I was so out of it he had to completely dress me and get me in the wheelchair so we could get to the emergency-room. In fact, my husband said he wheeled me into the emergency-room and a nurse was coming around the corner and she took one look at me at rushed me in while my husband had to fill-out all the paperwork. Furthermore, I had a fever of 107 degrees and I was unresponsive. The doctor said I had  and had double phenomena.        :sad1:

When my husband came in the next day I had tubes all over and several different IV bags, and after a few days one of the doctors told my husband he should get start looking into funeral arrangements. My husband almost decked him but two of the nurses calmed him down. In addition, my husband had another scare on Feb. 11, 2009 when I was no longer in ICCU because I woke-up and I was in a regular room. Then, February 14, 2009 at 10:00 pm., in a snow storm my husband took me home. And although I survived I was still struggling with an 11 year illness and I had lost so much weight, I was truly very weak.  :'(

However, one month later on March 14, 2009 my grandmother passed away peacefully in her bed while she was sleeping. And May 5, 2009 I started college online and I am two classes away from my AAEE degree, I got out of the whellchair March 14, 2009 and even though I still have a few mountains to climb my healthy has been improving throughout.  :angel12:

Sincerely, RosieQ

"A bit"?  Now that's an understatement.

What a load of santimonious fundie crap you're trying to force-feed someone who told posted how she felt about such "prayers".  Then you 'pick on' her for agreeing with me and 'diss' her personal choice.  That's cult behaviour on your part and you'ce demonstrated that cult-deprogramming is not likely to be of benefit to your self-inflicted blindness.

Anyway maybe your heart is just confused and you needed some guidance.I couldnt help point it out to you.

Allow someone to point out to you that you aren't in any position, (faith-blinded, self-deceived confusion), to "guide" anyone ... a blind faither leading one who can *see* for herself wouldn't make any sense.

Attributing medical attention to being "a testimony of the lord" is an unsupported and therefore, false attribution.  Apparently, that's all those blinded by religious belief have; unsupported faith-based attributions sans direct evidence.

Rational thought isn't the "nonsense" which irrational religious belief manifestly is; and I have no religious "beliefs".  Belief is unnecessary when there is evidence and required when there isn't.

It's still none of your business if she attributes her personal miracle to God, for working through the doctors to help get her as far as she has gotten today.  You don't have to accept it, but you don't need to criticize her for what she feels happened in her personal life.  So, just hush with your nonsense and live with your own decision of nonacceptance of it.

If so, it would be none of yours should those false attributions be exposed as such.

... for working through the doctors ...

No, that's you specious religious attribution and one which disparages and disrespects the doctors who actually did the work, (not some unsupportable supernatural vague entity).  That's not only rude but, it promotes irrationality and unreasoning 'blind faith'.

It's my choice and my right to believe how I want, including how I or anyone else, such as that poster, chooses to acknowledge an event.  You don't have to accept it, that's perfectly fine.  But you aren't going to stop me from sharing my opinion on a matter with a topic on praying for someone's mom.  You don't pray - that's fine.  I pray - that's fine.  I accept your choice, but you don't accept mine.  You, then, are the critical one, trying to prevent me from sharing what I believe, while trying to make my beliefs look stupid.  On with you - it's not working.

My opposition to your specious religious beliefs neither prevents you from having them or posting about them.  Neither do your ineffective attempts to suppress such opposing viewpoints prevent them.  As for your own words making your "beliefs look stupid"; anything I can do to emphasize what you're propounding endeavors to reiterate the irrationality, illogic and non-reasoning evinced by such superstitious religious beliefs.

It's none of your business since we are allowed to post our thoughts in this thread just as you are.  So stop with your irrational reasoning.  Stop messing with this poster's thread, too, please.  If you are so unhappy, leave.

In turn, it's "none of your business" should others choose to point out the irrationality of publically-posted illogic assertions.

The reasoning opposing your irrationality is logically-based and therefore, not irrational itself.  Such continued attempts to censor/suppress/oppress opposing viewpoints is yet another example of irrational intolerance and 'control issues'.

You like to use the word evidence a lot Wheeley.

Let me use it for a change.

You like to use the word evidence a lot Wheeley.

On the other hand, religious fundies like to avoid providing evidence for their specious, faith-based beliefs.

Let me use it for a change.
How most of this forum feels and thinks about you.

That would be the logical fallacy of an appeal to popularity and wouldn't constitute any other "evidence" than there being many self-deluded religious adherents who might prefer that their irrationality not be emphasized to their fragile egos.

The only thing you recognize is your undeserving government check that keeps you from getting a REAL job.

One of the names of Our Mighty God is "Jehovah Rapha". The LORD God that heals us. Cancer roots dry at the command of our Great Lord. It's cells will stop spreading at the command of God. His Word will restore health to you. The bible further says this in the book of Philippians 2:9-10 "Therefore God has exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the Glory of God the Father”. This tells me whatever name the cancer has, be it prostrate, lung, breast, or cervical cancer, all will bow at the name of King Jesus. Healing can be attained by trusting in His Wonderful name. Your mom will be heal very soon. Talk to god and he will answer your prayer. God is right by her side 24 hours. God blessed!!!!

That sort of superstitious blind faith can lead to dangerous consequences, such as a reliance upon such delusional beliefs rather than actual medical attention.

I haven't received a "government check" since the ones I'd gotten from the military payroll department while on active duty. The private sector checks I received for gainful employment after that weren't "government checks" either. If you're insinuating instead that you receive some sort of disability and are leaching off of the government dole just to troll someone with lies, try harder.

Excuse me??? Do you know me? You have no right to say that to me. If I agree with falcon9, so what? Why are you so pissed off about it? I take it if someone sticks up for me for expressing my opinions on a matter, they have my respect! Not many people do that for others today. You sound like a bully who only likes to "dis" and "pick" on people for no reason at all.
I never told anyone in this forum if I believe in prayers or not, I was expressing how I did not understand how no one seemed to care about the personal situation that happen to me and the effect it had on me. Everyday I live through the pain of seeing places that once had happy memories and now they are gone. You shouldn't judge someone that you don't know.
Yes, I will return the favor and support falcon9's opinions and personal beliefs, but for your information that doesn't mean I believe exactly like he does, or my way of living is like his. Some people just agree with others, but they shouldn't be looked down upon for doing so!!  :angry7:

Maybe she should think about assistent living or having a nurse call in to check on her. There are hospital type agencies that send people out to other people's houses. I will pray for her. If you want you can give me just her first name and I can put her on my church's prayer list.

Your mom is in my prayers.

In other words, doing nothing useful or effective.

By agreeing with a gossip-monger while adding more gossip, you're fueling a 'gossip fire', xtian hypocrite.

When one or more people pray for a cause, God answers these prayers!

Unless evidence to support such superstitious beliefs can be produced, they have no effective basis or merit.

Workmama im sorry if there was a mis-understanding here.If you wanna agree with Falcon9 be my guest.I just didnt understand why you would be upset not getting prayers when as you can plainly see Falcon has no use for God,prayers etc.I understand you were upset not getting support but do you support someone like that?

Im not a bully and i truly wish you well from enduring a tragic situation. The bible says Time and unforseen occurrence befalls everyone and God also told Adam cursed was the ground on his account if you have questions of why that tragedy happened.I know sometimes knowing why doesnt replace the sorrow that goes into that but undertanding why and the HOPE the bible holds out for us all can ease the pain.

I pray you have strength to endure this.

Prayer changes things.

Unsupported attributions are not evidence substantiating such a religious claim.  Such faith-based claims carry no weight due to the lack of evidence.

I'm a living witness to that.

Hearsay 'testimony' of unsupported attributions aren't valid evidence either.  One could just as inappropriately attribute a result to 'invisible pink unicorns' as to any other hypothetical supernatural 'cause'.

Actually, since you don't believe in God, you have no experience with that as does someone who loves God and has experienced answer to prayer.

One does not have to "experience" drowning to figure out that it's not conducive to living.

In essence, you are the one "drowning" in your lack of understanding of faith, and in your hard heart towards Christians.  If you are quite happy in your choice, you need to understand that Christians are quite happy in God, their choice.  They aren't infringing in your personal life, and you are not infringing in Christians' personal lives.

In essence, you are the one "drowning" in your lack of understanding of faith ...

That assertion is false because the rejection of drowning reason in blind faith is a more rational parallel than one based in the same blind faith being rejected by reasoning.

Says you, based on your ignorance of understanding what God is about.  That's okay.  Your ignorance does not affect a Christian's walk with God, and you are free to "think" what you want - it's your life to live how you want.

Your reply is rejected based on someone who thinks he knows it all about something he has no understanding about in the least.  The only thing you understand is your big words and your desire to be the best, the smartest, and the one in control.  In reality, it's pitiful and sad.  No need for any more circles tonight.  Good night.
