Title: Snow Cream
Post by: michele2042 on January 17, 2018, 03:46:12 pm
For those of you who live in areas where it snows, do you make snow cream and if you do would you be so kind to share how you make it.

My mom used to make it when we were kids with snow, milk, sugar and vanilla. I don't how much of each ingredient though.  I'm sure you could find a recipe on the internet.

If snow cream requires snow, where I live there's not a lot of snow. Bummer though, but that's ok. Plus I don't think I've ever had snow cream. I wonder now If it's any good!

Hello! :D :)

I don't know what a snow cream is. However, I'm interested in finding out and trying it out.  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:   :rose:  :rose:

I've never heard of people doing that. I guess maybe because I live where we only get snow maybe every 5 to 8 years. Sounds good though.

We make it with sweetened condensed milk and vanilla.   Don't follow a specific recipe, when it snows (which is rare for us) we put a bowl outside and let it get filled up.  Pour in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla and mix.  We do use our portable mixer because it gets it all mixed together quicker than trying to do it by hand.   I was just curious if others that do it have a different method.   For those of you who haven't tried it, if you get snow, try it, it's great, especially sitting in front of a fire.

I've never even heard of snow cream... but it sounds like it would be a lot of fun to enjoy with family during snow fall.

interesting, I would think it would be crystally, I know thats not a word. Kinda like when you leave ice cream in the freezer too long and it starts to get crystallized, yuck!

I remember making some as a kid once.  I wouldn't do it now.  Acid rain and acid snow and pollution and all of this.  Unless you live in a rural area away from the city and factories and industry where the air in cleaner.

Snows nice to look at when it's pure but unless you're in the wilderness I wouldn't eat it in this age.

I have had it once.  When my kids were babies a gal I grew up with brought the ingredients over and made it while visiting with us.  It was fun.  Tasty.  I don't remember saying to myself yum, can't wait to get more of this someday.  She said that she had gone somewhere and the snow tasted sweet.  Our snow wasn't as sweet.  So I think the purity of the air certainly plays a factor in the end result.

When it was done around me it was never real formal just milk, a lot of sugar, a bit of vanilla and some snow.  Amounts depend on how sweet you like it and how hard or stiff

I had never heard of snow cream before about a year ago, and I grew up in Illinois where we had plenty of snow! I don't know that it actually makes a superbly tasty ice cream. It may be that the snow is readily available when it snows and it's fun to use it to make ice cream. But I think I agree with others on this thread that are a little cautious about using snow for ice cream. I don't think I'd trust it unless you live out in the country or mountains or somewhere like that. :peace:

We mix snow, milk, sugar and vanilla together to make snow cream.  There is a local dairy that makes Snow Cream Ice Cream.  It is very good.

My mom made it a time or two when we were little but I'd be afraid to eat snow cream now.  I'd rather have blue bell or homemade ice cream than snow cream any day lol

I just use milk, sugar, and vanilla.  I have put chocolate syrup and strawberry syrup like for milk in it too.  I have saw different ways to make it on Pinterest.  Adding more stuff.  I like the simple way I do it.

It is as safe as the stuff you get at grocery stores.  Look at all the recalls lately. haha  I guess it could also depend on where you live and the air quality in your area.  If you live in NYC it may be less safe that in a less populated state in the country lands. :D

If it's like a slushy then yes, I've had snow cream. I wouldn't try eating snow from outside though! The president may believe there's no such things as man made or natural climate change happenings but what has happened nature wise last year & the last few months of the new year, tells me different! Last week it snowed here in Florida the sunshine state! Last time it rained the water bucket collected brownish red water! You really can't trust what comes from the sky anymore when it's dealing with anything clean coming from nature!

I never heard of that, but not sure I would eat snow....well maybe a little if it had just fallen.

I love snow though, for the most part....till it melts and becomes ice. Of course, it is not snow at that point.

Snow pretties up the drab leafless trees and dead grass of winter.  I enjoy it.

I love cold stuff to eat, so it is probably very tasty.  So naturally, ice cream is my fave dessert :)

I've never heard of that before, but the idea makes me wish even more that I lived somewhere where it snowed! I wonder how that would taste.

We really enjoy it.  Made it with Sweetened Condensed milk and a little vanilla.  Mixed it with a electric hand mixer.  It's a treat for us since we don't get much snow.  Maybe that's why we like it, it's a rare treat!    :)

Snow cream sounds like fun. It does not snow where I live, but I heard of snow cream when I was watching a show and saw the family making it. I would make it if it snowed where I live.
