We usually say subs, but sandwiches can also be called hoagies or grinders here.

I can't believe they still have these kinds of contests!  Someone could easily choke to death--especially on hot dogs.  I would think someone would be concerned about liability issues if something happened to a contestant.

Oh, I like to fly, without question.  I can hardly stand long car trips anymore at all.  As for trains, I've never been on one, but would like to ride one sometime

Most definitely a spender, although I've become a smarter spender.  I look for specials, use coupons, etc.  But it never seems like I have enough money!

I hate having to wear my glasses and almost always wear contacts.  I just don't like the way I look in glasses!

I have allergies especially at this time of year that really set off my asthma--I have prescriptions for that.  As for over the counter stuff for stuffy head, etc.  Claritin D has worked best for me.  But check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking anything!

We have plans for the weekend--some shopping today, church on Sunday, was hoping to play some golf, but it may be too cold.  We are just planning to chill out at home on Monday and grill out.  Word to the wise this weekend--do not even think of drinking at all and driving.  The police last night were everywhere according to my boyfriend.  Of course, none of us should drink and drive anytime, anyway.  Have a good weekend, all.

It may or may not be a fun holiday here.  My boyfriend will be off work for three days and can be overbearing at times.  Plus, it is supposed to be cold here.  I really wanted to go golfing, but don't know if we will be able to. Staying very busy is probably my best bet for getting through the holiday weekend.

Off-Topic / Re: School System

I dealt with schools a lot in my old job.  The biggest problem I saw with underprivileged children was the parents.  A lot of them were too wrapped up in their own dramas or had substance abuse problems.  Many underprivileged children got enrolled in online schools so their parents didn't have to deal with the school districts and attendance issues anymore.  So nobody physically ever saw these kids like they would at a regular school to see if they were struggling.  Very sad.

That's a tough one.  Is there anyone you can talk to?  I don't know if you have a local agency on aging that may offer some help.  Or maybe you could talk to a counselor for yourself--they may be able to offer advice and help you to deal better.  Best wishes.  It is commendable that you are really trying to help your parents.  Dealing with some similar issues myself.

I laughed when I read that post!  My cat eats cheesecake and lettuce and tried to eat several bees lately.  But no foil.  Good luck with that one!

I enjoy a long walk and I enjoy my sitcoms in the evenings.  Occasionally, I enjoy crosswords and knitting.  But usually those are winter activities.  I just sometimes enjoy being outdoors on my porch!

I enjoy running, but I also have the world's largest collection of exercise DVD's and videos (as in dating back to the early '80's).  So, I'd have to say my DVD's and videos are my favorites!

Ours is down right now, but still high.  Many here work for very low wages.
