Several years ago, before we knew all the ways our accounts could be hacked, my tax return was taken right out of my checking account at a credit union. That was right after we got debit/credit cards for the first time. The full ckg acount number was at that time printed on receipts, not "x'd" out.
I went to an credit union officer there, and she pulled up my account. We were able to see that the hacker was taking out of my account as we watched.
Pay Pal and the credit union took over, and my funds were quickly restored.
A year ago, I had my debit credit card number hacked, alone with several other accounts at a different credit union, and we got it handled very quickly. All my funds restored within 48 hours.
I prefer to handle most transactions in cash now. Both times were a nightmare.
