Dentist - who else doesn't care for them

I'm not a big fan of the dentist but I am in need of going.  Any strategies to help relax and calm yourself before going to the dentist?

I know when I was younger I got laughing gas, but I think they frown on that in more "adult" types.... I don't like to think I am an adult yet, but I am.
