FC is by far one of the best. When you're able to cash out within a few months by just working it alone (ie without any refs) says a lot. I have tried some other sites that I have been paid at, but it tends to take much longer to cash out.
PTC sites are usually the worst. You usually don't make much with those unless you are able to come up with refs, or are willing to pay for upgrades or to rent refs. (and in those cases, it is difficult to recover your losses). The best ones are those that don't have set advertisements (which I assume are ads directly from the PTC owners) but rather are dished out to their members on a first-come-first-go basis. It may mean that you have to regularly check the site throughout the day, but also means that you may pick up many ads during the day or may be incentivised by a higher return per click.
Surveys are ok, but again you still don't get a lot for the amount of time that you put in. There are a few survey sites that will pay you a few cents for attempting the survey, which gets bumped up to a few dollars if you actually complete it. Surveys are also nice when they want you to demo a product; they'll ship you a product (like I did one for a body wash), have you use the product, and then complete a survey after a few days. Not only do you get paid for the survey, but you also get to use the product for free -- something you'd probably would've paid for on your own (eg the body wash would've prob'ly retailed for $4-$5). Every once in a while you'll get lucky and receive a larger study. I've recently completed one for $25 that may have taken an hour of total time to complete. But if I average that with the total time I've spent trying to get accepted on surveys, it probably still averages to maybe a dollar or two per hours -- much less than minimum wage.
The one thing I've found with any of these sites is that, on your own, you won't make money for the time you put into it. You may spend a couple of hours trying out the different surveys, clicking on your PTC ads, filling out GPT forms, etc. and end up making only a few dollars for your efforts. However, working even for a minimum waged jobs would've netted you more money for that amount of work. So there are a couple of things to keep in mind. 1st spend your couple of hours doing your work when during your leisure time. Getting paid even a couple of dollars while watching TV is better than not getting paid anything while watching the ads that the TV airs. 2nd have multiple streams coming in. Even a small trickle from many sites can eventually add up to something a little more substantial. 3rd keep in mind the importance of refs. and use your references as an asset by them being in your pool. What I mean is, it might be good to have a ref under you for one program, but that much better by having that same ref under you for several different sites (I know, easier said than done as attested to my zero refs so far

).
